Subject: Gasoline question color paint??

Hello,
I was wondering about how Gasoline gets its color distortion, like when you see a puddle in the sun it appears to be a rainbow(sort of) of colors.
And was really wondering if anyone knew of anyway or paints that have a effect similar to this.
I passed a biker earlier with a helmet that looked like it but it was painted on and didn't change as you change viewing angles.
Possibly anyone with automotive experience since ive seen some cars with this paint similar to this.
Wondering if itd be possible to paint models with it, if it exist.
Who wouldn't want color changing Necrons? or Tyranids??? Not to mention possible weathering on bases!!!, or models!

I've seen iridescent craft paints, which certainly give the 'rainbow' effect, although I'm not sure how well they also change colour from different angles.

Check out this guy's article on using color-changing automotive paint on his Necron monolith (and other fancy stuff). Sounds expensive and difficult, but cool.

Does anyone know of anyone using color shifting paint on Tyranids? or Necrons??
Besides the link provided above?
Im thinking or a bone color skin and have color changing paint for tyranid armor, sounds good in my head, but in practice might not.
Purple/green probably for armor want to stay somewhat organic looking, and skin will change to fit the final product.
But trying to see if anyone has had experience with it on anything (cars, models, computers, etc).
Thanks in advance, and thank you for the link and replies

I do. Youre not going to want to hear this.
It doesn't really work effectively on small areas. You need to be able to view the surface, which needs successive layers applied by airbrush, under different lighting conditions to make the colors refract differently.
Tyranid carapace works a little, because of the relatively small area is hard to achieve the effect to the proper depth of color gradation. Automatically Appended Next Post: To say it differently, look at that gas spill and see what color differences there are in small tyranid carapace sized spots vs the puddle as a whole. Would work 'just ok' on the big bugs and the same effect would look different on the gaunts.

Tyranids attract more tang than an astronaut convention.

Alternitly you might have a problem finding a color change paint with a small enough grain size to work on a minature.

Holo Flake does the color changing thing pretty well, but you also have a glittery look to it. I doubt that that's what you're after, but here's a pic of the effect anyway:
As you can see there, the overall temperature of the paint is a cool blue, but it fades into a green with the obvious stark contrasting stripe of red towards the bottom.

Are you trying to do wet/pooled gas or dried gas? When gas/fuel dries it gets a kinda black, oily look to it. That is easy to simulate with a heavy black wash.
