I need help making a tyranid list. I currently have about 14 genestealers, a broodlord, a trygon prime, a hive tyrant and 3 warriors (although they don't need to be in the list). I would really like a fast hitting army that can be hard to peel off of objectives, pops in your deployment zone, and doesn't give you much time to react. Fire power to kill transports would also be nice. The desired points limit is 1850. Any help is greatly appreciated, I have no idea what to do.

Tyranids are good at coming from all directions!
Give the hive tyrant wings and give him a gargoyle escort.
Flank with Genestealers
Have Mawlocs coming out of the ground to eat his guys (S6 AP2, hits vehicles on rear armour, nice)
Trygons also come from underground and give you a spot to deepstrike further units from
Stick something in a spore pod and aim it at enemy troops
Ymgarl Genestealers jump out from a pre-selected terrain piece and can assault that turn!
Also, Hive Guard are good for dealing with transports!
A Tervigon chosen as a troops choice can hold objectives and is a T6 W6 nightmare for your opponent!
Play around, have fun, get your opponent to scream 'There coming outta the goddamn walls'!

I just played a game against nids, and getting many devourer termagaunts are a great way to bulk up your army's numbers, as well as pin down infantry. Use them to take over objectives and swarm the enemy. If you are a pro at converting carnifexes, then maybe make a tervigon and get a well-armed carnifex, too. Keep the tervigon in cover towards the rear of your army, but don't reveal it to charge or shoot at any enemy, no matter what. Let the termagaunts handle the incoming enemies. This may be expensive, but you did say that you wanted a big army, didn't you?

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of gargoyles, tervigons, and hive guard. I've also considered lictors. Are they any good? I see a possible synergy with mawlocs, primes, etc. And Kave, dev gants are awesome. I've toyed around with the idea of 20 in a spod. 60 incoming shots and the spore pod shooting is pretty awesome. Drop on a remote objective while the rest of your army butchers him. Ymgarls are interesting. I'll have to give them a try. The only problem I see however is that they compete with hive guard and the doom of malan'tai for elite slots.

I never had much truck with lictors! If they dont come in on turn 2, there usefulness plummets like a rock.
The Elites slot for Tyranids is very crowded! So many good things, and only 3 slots makes for some agonising decisions!
Generally, I go for Hive Guard, with some other choices depending on mood or opponent (if known). I ususaly grab a venomthrope if I know I'm going to be playing a little defensivly (well, for tyranids anyway), or a unit of Ymgarls for a little extra reserve spice in bigger games!

Hive Gaurd could work. I would recomend a Carnifex in a Mycetic Spore if you have the points.

"As I looked into its dead black eyes, I saw the terrible sentinence it had in place of a soul. Behind that was the steel will of its leader. Further still I could feel its primogenitor coldly assessing me from the void. And looking back from the deepest recesses of the aliens mind I perceived what I can describe only as an immortal hunger.
We can slay the tyranids on our worlds, blast their fleets from space, grind their armies to torn and ruined fragments. But their hunger? That is beyond our ability to slay."

Zoeys in a spore annihilate armor the turn they arrive, and if you have enough threats on the table they tend to survive long enough to blow apart one or two more tanks unless you're facing an army with strong psychic defense.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it. |

Zoey's can be very unreiable though, make psy check, make to hit roll, make armour pen roll, make damage chart roll. To many things can go bad, and with current meta being armour 12 transports by and large hive guard are better bang for your buck. Any MC can do a number on a vehicle. If you want the comming from everywhere idea, also look into shrikes and giving hive commander to your Tyrant if you take him, outflanking group of 30 hormoguants is kinda serious.
