The title says it all really.... I actually intend on playing a mixed WWP/coven list with hellions and scourges as well, but since the first few turns will just be Heamies/Grots/Wracks, for now my question is purely about whether a strongly coven themed list would be at all competitive as i haven't seen too many posted.

My scepticism mainly comes from the fact that Dark Eldar are supposed to be about speed, hitting hard, but being very fragile in return whereas this list would rely on cover, high toughness FNP, and a slow advance once raiders start falling from the sky.

So would a coven list be taking away from the main advantage of Dark Eldar? How would you go about using it differently to other lists?

Some of the Coven units are the best in the codex - and really a coven theme being competitive is dependent upon what your list turns out to be. In general I think coven is, at best, high second tier, while Cult and Kabal Raider Rush tends to be low 1st tier.

I'll also toss out that Hellions are pretty gakky, and that I think WWP is best as an all or nothing strategy, so I'm a little worried about your 'mixed' WWP list. A Coven WWP list can be pretty solid though, Grots, Wracks, and Talos(i?) pouring out of portals is always fun.

When i say 'mixed' I don't just mean like, a whole coven on the table with a couple of units dribbling out of the portal. I'll start as little as i can on the table, usually two heamies with a unit in a raider, each ready to open a new board edge and pretty much everything else waiting to come through either one.

Yes I do use Taloi, dunno why i didn't mention that in the first post, they're one of my favourite units and the whole reason i decided to do a coven/wwp list!

I know hellions aren't amazing, I've just always had a thing for their models so i like to include them, if nothing else just to pat them on the heads and go "you did wonderful, brave little soldiers "

My question was mainly directed towards wracks and grotesques. How competitive are they, and how would the playstyle have to vary from say kabalites/wyches and incubi/trueborn?
