Hey there, anybody on dakka play some SC2?
OmNom here, a gold rated zerg quickly moving his way up the ladder. 6-1 in my last 7, and I've been surprised by the lack of competition in my games (except for the one I lost). I was losing most of my games before I watched a bunch of Day 9 dailies, some other zerg videos, and MLG Columbus. I cannot recommend Day 9's dailies enough, they are both educational and entertaining.
Oh, I'm also looking to get into some decent 2v2 action. If you're a gold level (or higher) player and want a decent competitive 2v2 buddy please post here or pm me.

But to answer your question, I am terrible at the RTS genre, the only two times I have ever done anything of note was in DoW, once was because I was playing the guard and stalled three people fourty five minutes by myself, mostly because they were kind enough to let me dig in, and then the second time was I was the only one to notice they hadn't uncapped a Req point which allowed me to tele some Termies behind enemy lines to assassinate some support units, causing their front line to crumble.
Other than that, I'm terrible at the RTS genre.

Probably, I'm pretty bad. I don't micro one bit, just focus on out-macroing people.
But like I said, gold league is real bad. I can't believe there's two leagues below it. By the time I'm @ mid game I'll have 1000-2000+ minerals I just can't spend. It's tough when you do nothing but drone and are on four bases and the other guy just sits in his main and MAYBE takes his natural. I try to keep it under 400 but when you can just take all the expos you want it's hard to spend the money fast enough.
A lack of expansion is the biggest flaw I find in the people I play against. Not once have I ever seen anybody take a third base, and in several games they've not taken a second base by the 15 minute mark. Most of the time they try a one base push when I'm on two bases with 3 hatch. I've got a lot more resources and map control so I see the push coming, spawn larvae and make a crap load of zerglings, crush the push, take a 3rd, and then just go for the throat.
What league are you in Luna? Like I said before, I could use a 2s partner.

*sigh* thats why I hate online RTS at the moment. People macro, which I pretty much equate to cheating. Using non-ingame means to influence a game is cheating, almost akin to using a trainer in single player.
There's a difference between skill at managing a base, and getting your computer to do the work.

You mean, this is why you hate online starcrap right? Because not all RTS games have that problem.

Wait, macro is a problem? Macro is a skill, a skill that separates the normal everyday people like me and the pros.
How is it non in-game means? Blizzard made it so you can hotkey groups of buildings, and made it so you can make units just by press a button on your keyboard. They did that in Starcraft and Brood War. It's clearly a designed game mechanic. A game mechanic that has allowed Starcraft and Starcraft 2 to be the #1 competitive RTS in the world.
What do you mean get the computer to do it? If I have a big base and I don't hit a single button or click my mouse, nothing gets made. Is it wrong that I'm not staring down my buildings while I want them to make something?

Macroing, or as my understanding of Macroing, is making it where you push one button and it does five actions for you, right?
Yeah, that's bush league; your not the one doing it, the computer is.

No, that's macroing in a different sense. You are talking about macros, where one click does multiple actions. In SC2 macro is just making things (units, workers, buildings, upgrades) quickly and efficiently. Constantly using up your resources, since resources don't make your army bigger, they don't make your units better, etc. unless they're being spent.
I've never really bridged that gap before, but I see how you can come to that conclusion. It's using the same word to mean two different things.

I suck bad at starcraft. I can help someone else out in co-op at best. I can never have more than one base at a time because I am terrible at micromanaging, thou I have been trying to work on it. (Seriously though, how the gak does someone have 15 thors and a crap load of other units following close behind in the first 10 minutes of a game? It takes me around that long to build up all the structures in my base and a few marines and marauders.)
Honestly, I was 8 minutes into a game once when twelve thors show up and kill everything I have built with little resistance. Does anyone use anything other than endless waves of thors? I play terran, so I shouldn't have such a frikking hard time with base defence. Ah whatever. I'll just go play offline until I get better.

Waves of thors isn't really the most optimal strategy. I'm trying to get better at SC2 right now, but my attention span is pretty low so it's hard for me to play enough games to get better.

Macro isnt a problem, it isnt cheating, its not getting the computer to do it for you. Macroing is a skill where you can control a large amount of buildings or units using hotkeys, Griever is right on this one. Anybody who says macro is cheating is the worst SC player alive.
