I have a desert cadian guard army and wondered if i can use units such as the DKoK Quad Launcher or Heavy mortar in my army and it is still a legal army list or do i need to fully take DKoK or i just have to ask my opponent. I would be using the DKoK pts so it is still fair but i may convert some models so they still look suitable in my army.

Against friends - ask them. Its your game, change the rules as you wish

In general - no, by including DKoK units you are no longer selecting units from just your codex, and people are likely to have issues with this.

Like most things - asking and being upfront with what you're doing is the best way.

Not exactly DKoK per say but you can use the generic version of certain units such as quad launchers and heavy mortars. According to my IA Apoc 2, quad mortars are an elite choice in IG armies.

But since its FW, always ask for opponents permission first

Depends on the unit.

Death Riders, Engineers, Death Korps squads, Quartermaster etc.

NO these are part of the Death Korps army only.

Quad Launchers, Centaurs, Heavy Mortars, Heavy Artillery etc.?

YES these have their own seperate entries telling you that you may use the modified unit in a regular Codex:IG army. Use the entries in IA5 (forces of the Imperium section), not the modified one in the Siege Regiment entry.

I assume you apply the same ideas to elysian long rang ground scanner so it is only elysian.

Those rules are a bit outdated though. For example the heavy mortar has a lot of broken tricks up its sleeve while the modern heavy mortar is just the griffon mortar and costs the same as the quad launcher

Not in the latest print of IA5. All the unit entries were updated with the new, less cheesy choice.
