Greetings dakka folk,
Am currently working on an Imperial Fists force, and my next paint project is the thunderfire cannon and accompanying techmarine. Now, from what i have seen of techmarines in the SM codex, most people decide to paint these a dark red, but there are also some Ultramarine techs, who are painted in the normal Ultramarine scheme. I have always taken it for granted that their armour should be red, but now i am confused. I checked lexicanum, but the techmarine entry does not describe the armour that they wear. Can anyone in their wisdom, kindly enlighten me?

Some wear red with the shoulder pad painted with the chapter colours and symbol.
Others wear the chapter colours with the shoulder pad painted red.
It varies...

Yeah, fluff wise people painted them red to show their connection with admech, librarians used to be blue, and chaplins used to be black. Used to be a universal thing but now it seems to be up too the player

Chaplain are still all black apart from the shoulderpad...
Librarians vary just like the Techmarines do...

Putting it bluntly, Nathaniel--it's up to you.
You can do them in the standard Imperial Fists color with their helmet, shoulderpads, and greaves done in red--or do them in all red with the blank left shoulderpad done in IF yellow.
I'm doing my Techmarines for my DA Successor overall in the Chapter colors(a dark grey), but with a red right hand shoulderpad, red helm, and the servo-harness done up in red as well.

Thanks for your input all. I did an image search on the gallery and saw an IF techmarine by a guy called riocordo that was painted in the IF colours and with a red pad, so i think i'll go the same way. Also, if i dont then the cannon won't match the techmarine, which would just look daft.

Could always add a panel or two of the Thunderfire's cannon body in AM red.

traditionally, its all red armor with the shoulder pad being in the chapter colors.
the TFC would be in the chapter colors.
