Hi All

I was having a spot of trouble with assaults on units where the models have varying WS values. For example, I had a command unit comprising of a choas lord, sorcerer and daemon prince against Ghazghkull with nobs then joined (in second assault phase) by a nob lead unit of boys.

How would I go about dealing with the hand-to-hand on this one?! I know about the intiative ordering etc, but who would strike at who? Is it purely on base-to-base contact terms?

Cheers
Andy

WEll, the command "unit" was no such thing - you CANNOT join an IC to a daemon prince, see page 48

When striking at a UNIT you use majority weapon skill, or the highest in case of a tie.

Now, the good news is: you were in combat with 3 different units: Ghaz, Nobs (presumably with waaagh banner, to make them WS5) and boyz at WS4.

So, any model fighting the boyz unit rolls against WS4
Any model fighting the nobz rtolls against ws5
any model fighting ghaz goes against WS6 (from memory he is 5, boosted to 6 by being in the same unit as the nobz)

Simply: work out the WS of the unit you are directing attacks towards, on a model by model basis on your side.

Also, remember in close combat, an IC (such as the Lord or the sorcerer) count as separate units for combat purposes. This means you can specify whether you're attack the IC or the squad (assuming your in base-contact with both).

Let there be BLOOD!

I carry with me an Inquisitorial Seal. It is a small, unassuming object contained in a neat box of Pluvian obsidian. It is a modest thing. Relatively plain, adorned with a single motif and a simple motto. Yet with this little object I can sign the death warrant of an entire world and consign a billion souls to Oblivion.

For rules reference - that's page 49, ICs in Assault

Its only when you resolve attacks that they are separate.
