Hello all, i was painting my wraithlord and farseer today and a question hit me. What bases are allowed what models on nowadays? Here are some examples.

I have some very old wraithlord models, which go back to using the new hero/terminator base size. However in todays game the news one have the large base. Woul i be allowed to still use the smaller base without being called cheating?

Another example is the majority of characters now come on bigger bases then the original, and yet eldar characters and hq choices still come on thesmaller bases. If i was to change a farseer onto a bigger base to match other hq choices, would this be cheating?

Also when comparing a skimmer base to a dreadnought base, the different is mm apart, so if i was to say field a wraithlord on a skimmer base to represent its base, would this be seen cheating?

Obviously i know friendly games anything can go as long as your opponant dont mind, but i meant in 40k egenral terms... How do you see this change and how GW have done it?

Thanks

Somewhere in the dark...

I have the same issue with a really, really old TAGK. he's got a small base that just isn't anywhere near the upto date terminator bases. Is it cheating to use a smaller than normal base - especially if I put him in with a squad of terminators?

The rules for bases are on page 3 of the Warhammer 40,000 5th edition rulebook and state that models are to be mounted on the bases that they were supplied with. Other size bases can only be used with your opponent's consent.

The prevailing rule is to use the base the model came with. I imagine you'd have to use the base the latest models come with to make everything "official." That's my take, anyway.

Nope. It is the actual base that model came with.

Ok i agree with the use the base it came with rule, but like ghaz said, what if it did come with that small base at that time? I mean look at 3rd ed terminators size comparison to the new ones. The old ones were not as wide so didnt need big bases, yet the new ones are wide and need them. Surely ya could use the original size they came with, otherwise thats like saying you cant use an old vehicle if its size is way off the new ones if that makes sense?

Whats ya take on that?
