The Last Chancer Who Survived

Anyone tried this game? I know it's been out a while, I signed up for the free trial and tried it out last night .. and I was kinda underwhelmed.. it was just sort of boring. I went through the tutorials, did some missions, but it seemed kinda hard to figure out some basic things like attacking a ship, or figuring out how to get back from your mission, and there's a bajillion pop up menus and screens all over the place.. and it wouldn't let me turn on FSAA for some reason :( And lets not mention the text that was so tiny you could barely read it.
I think I was expecting something more like a space RTS game like Homeworld.. does Eve get any better? Or is it all about waiting 12 hours to learn new skills you don't even need?

Eve is a vastly complex and in depth spaceship sandbox game.
there are many many paths you can take your character development down and it is pretty easy to tailor your character to how you like.
if you want to persue Eve beyond the trial period i suggest checking out their new player forums and wiki to get a better idea to how the game works.
Eve is for the most part a player driven game, there are missions you can accept from NPC but eventually you will want to join a Corp that does similar things as you.
This lets you do bigger and better missions or mining adventures and can be a quick way to get the cash you need to buy skills, ships or equipment.
I will warn you that Eve is a pretty tough game to learn, there really is no power leveling like in regular games but there are ways to speed your skills up.
It will take you quite a bit of time to have your skills trained to a decent point , even after a year of playing i was not even close to flying the top ships or using the top equipment.
if you really want to enjoy Eve you have to be in it for the long haul, plan what you really want to do and set milestones along the way so you can branch out into different aspects of the game rather than toil away at one task for what seems like forever.
one really nice thing about Eve is that players of all skill levels are useful to corps. Mining/industrial corps will need players to ferry resources back to stations for processing; merc/pirate corps use smaller ships to disable large ships or they cloak and attack the unsuspecting.

The trial really doesn't do the game justice. I had to return to it about four times to learn everything that was possible within the game, and even then, two weeks really isn't enough time to establish yourself within the game world. As Deathklaat said, you should check out the beginner section of the forums if you want to retain interest in the game. I'll admit that the immediate action in EVE is rather boring, but the game is all about forethought and establishing long-term goals to become a driving force within the sandbox environment. There are a lot of different aspects of planning that you need to do at any given moment, and this will keep your mind constantly occupied. There is no 'end-game' that you're accustomed to in other MMOs; even after five years you will continue to evolve and improve. The economy is wonderfully lifelike, so if you enjoy that sort of thing, EVE is right up your alley. Existing in 0.0 sec space is exhilarating, and the massive PVP battles are on a scale that you've never seen before. Even something as simple as mining can require a lot of teamwork to be successful, and pulling off any sort of joint operation like this is incredibly rewarding. NPC combat and combat-related missions are pretty much the only weak points in the game, once you get a good grasp of it (The open PVP is what you'll spend most of your time on if you go military). Keep in mind that during downtime in the game (I.E. - solo mining) there is a jukebox that lets you import music files to listen to, and a web browser to occupy yourself with (so you can surf Dakka Dakka while you're waiting for an in-game action to complete).

EVE is a fantastically fun game provided two things occur:
1. You have friends/meet interesting people in game that you can fly with
2. You skill up your character and move to 0.0

The learning curve doesn't curve, it ascends vertically like a wall. You need to do careful research and planning to succeed, and you need friends to do it. Its fun, but far more time consuming than other MMOs because the stakes are much higher, and so your fellow players demand more of you.

I just deleted it.. I did a few missions but it really just wasn't my thing.. I don't want a FPS but I need some kind of action .. if I could at least move my ship around and shoot stuff, instead of clicking then sitting there watching it like a movie I think it would have been for me.

I decided to finally get Starfract 2, I think this is more what I was looking for .. forgot how much I loved the first one, and I haven't played it since it was brand new way back when.

Very complex game, was good but so much stuff is broken, I E player owned stations, hybrid weapons etc.
CCP is now focused on income rather than quality of game play.

Its hard to be awesome, when your playing with little plastic men.

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.
Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.
