This is the first time I've played Ogres and the first time I've played WHFB since 6th Edition.

I'd welcome any constructive criticism, Thanks.

Bruiser = 157
Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Talisman of Protection.

Butcher = 155
Halfling Cookbook.

5 Ironguts = 320
Great Weapons, Heavy Armour, Standard Bearer (Wailing Banner), Bellower.

6 Bulls = 288
Hand Weapons, Ironfists, Light Armour, Standard Bearer, Bellower.

6 Bulls = 288
Hand Weapons, Ironfists, Light Armour, Standard Bearer, Bellower.

20 Gnoblars = 42
Groinbiter.

1250.

Basically, Bruiser goes into the Ironguts and behind them sits the Butcher so he can chuck buff spells at either the Ironguts in front of him or the two Bulls Units on either flank. The Gnoblars are just in to make up the last 42 points.

Are their any tactics I should be aware of, or is it simply a race to beat face???

Your heros are above the limit for points for a force this size. meaning you'll have to drop the butcher because a butcher cant be the general. I am a fan of none upgraded bulls. Though others like ironfists. Try giving your bruiser the potion of foolhardiness for extra carnage on the charge. Also consider changing the ironguts banner for the banner of eternal flame. It'll make anything with regeneration cower.

Also I would put all the bulls together in one unit to save points and retain effectiveness. Then bulk out the gnoblar unit. Also dont upgrade the gnoblars to have a champion. Just spend the points on more gnoblars.

I'm not over points for the Heroes. 25% of 1250 is 312.5. My heroes come in at 312 exactly. If I've got that wrong please tell me.
Is Regen quite common in WHFB? I don't know as I've not played 8th ed.
The only reason I added the Groin Biter was for the two points left and so they ranked up properly.
I looked into the bulls configuration and much prefer the Iron Fists. As for bulking up the Bulls, definitely going to Horde them in larger games. Having a unit of twelve wouldn't be all that great in a small game as 1250 would it? Again I don't know.

Wow nicely done for bang on the limit. Sorry I had it added up wrong. Well that gut magic should help you tons. Especially with the cookbook. As for the bulls in horde. Yeah wait for bigger games. Though you cant go wrong having them running 3-4 wide and as many deep as you can get for the extra charge damage.

Yes there's a few quite tough monsters that use regeneration and some lores that allow it. Its a great trick to use versus those large points monsters. Especially the hell pit abomination when fighting skaven. Or trolls.

Do Skaven HPA show up in games of this size? I can see that banner coming in handy against Trolls for sure.

So is the Prime tactic for Ogres to just run in and pound out a win?

True they don't show up as much. I'm just in a habit of using the fire banner I guess. Pretty much at low points ogres just have to hit as hard as possible and get the charges off. As your limited till 2000-3000 in areas on what you can do due to unit costs.

Looks pretty good, but a couple of things are bugging me.

Give the Bruiser the Mawseeker Bigname instead of Talisman of Protection. T6 is tons better than a +6 Ward.

The Wailing Banner is alot of points and does not give Ogres much. Better to give the Guts the Standard of Disicpline so your Bruiser's Inspiring Presence will be Ld9. It may not look like it on first glance, but Leadership is a pretty big problem for Ogres.

Didn't think of taking Mawseeker or STD of Discipline. Thanks for that, definitely going to look into those.

Just a quick one... How much is the STD? (I'm at work and I don't have my book to hand).

TY

Mawseeker is kind of risky without a BSB. Definitely switch to banner of eternal flame, frees up 40 pts and is a ton better. Stick the butcher in a group in the middle so he gets a look out sir roll and he can still buff the other groups. A lone butcher is just asking to be hit with a cannon ball or bolt.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Can the Butcher go in the back rank of the Ironguts and still cast to any unit?

I have a spare ogre left in the box, I might make a BSB for games where I don't use the Butcher.

Are naked BSBs any good at low level games?

Just give the BSB Heavy armor and mawseeker ( You can take it with a magical banner! ). It makes him very tough. And with a normal ogre club he can hit hard as well. And the reroll on the leadership test minimizes stupidity. Given the option though I would be having a butcher before a BSB. Stacking gut magic is amazing.

By stacking you mean multiple buffs on a unit?

Can a butcher be in the second rank and still cast?

No.

The Butcher goes to the 2nd rank if there is no room in the front and, yes, he can cast from the 2nd rank.

So if I have the Bruiser, Bellower and STD in the first rank, I can put the Butcher in the 2nd?

Sweet - ty.
