So I've decided to branch out and get into the guard! I've came up with a solid little list (IMHO) was wondering if any of you guard players can give me any advice or pointers or revisions to my list that would help me get out the gate so to speak.
Company Command Squad 165
4 Grenade Launchers
Chimera
Heavy Flamer
Storm Trooper Squadron 105
2 Meltaguns
Platoon Command Squad 125
4 Meltaguns
Chimera
Heavy Flamer
3 x Infantry Squad 195
Grenade Launcher
Autocannon
2 x Veteran Squad 310
3 Meltaguns
Chimera
Heavy Flamer
Hellhound 135
Smoke Launchers
Heavy Flamer
Leman Russ Demolisher 165
Heavy Flamer
x2 Hydra Flak Tank Battery 150
Heavy Flamer
x2 Hydra Flak Tank Battery 150
Heavy Flamer
The plan is to set the infantry up to protect the Hydras as they pour their shots down the range into the enemy, all the while my chimeltas make their way up the flank with the hellhound. The Demolisher and the CCS stay midrange helping out where the fighting gets toughest. Furthermore, my Stormtroopers take airborn assault and deep strike and hopefully blow some armor skyhigh when they join the field.

Looks fairly solid. I'd switch the CCS and the PCS weapons since CCS has BS4 which makes them much more reliable with meltaguns. Maybe switch the GL on the command for flamers, makes them very killy up close. The infatry could benefit from a commissar although unsure where the points would come from

This^ big time!
plus you could consider dropping 1 squadron of Hydras for a LRMBT. at 1500 i've found 2 hydras to be plenty. just my opinion.

Totally agree. GLs are just not very good. I would also give your blob plasma guns, powerswords, and meltabombs to go with that one Commissar, otherwise they will run at the first moral check they have to make and even at 30 guys will not take a good assault unit long to mow through.

Alright, so far I'm guessing I should blob the infantry, I was going to keep them seperate so I could shoot at multiple units. I could definitely add the commisar if I'm going to blob them, makes a lot of sense right there. I'm going to see how much overkill the 4 Hydras are on the table before I change them, but I sure do love me some Leman Russ Battle Tanks! Thanks for the input so far! Any other advice on the Imperial Guard would be most welcome as well. Such as when to blob and when not to >.<

I think it looks good. And I think every ones advice is sound. But I would really think before pulling out the hydras for a LRBT. with out any vendettas, they’re your only real anti transport units.
As well I would pull the HF on the hellhound. It cant move 12 and shoot them both. If you love that flamer I would run a bane wolf, the chem cannon is only str 1, making it a def weapon.

Taking all the criticism to heart, I made some more changes to the list. Let me know if this is sufficient or if more fiddling needs to be done. I want this list to work >.< IG are expensive enough to get into... Oh, and on a small fluff note ^^ I'm going to make this unit the Garmite 32nd Vikingr Battallion (Garm is a very important world that the SW pretty much babysit because it houses one of their sacrid relics and it makes sense to have a Garm army since i play SW as my primary army thus far ). Company Command Squad 185 4 Meltaguns Chimera Heavy Flamer Guardsman Marbo 65 Platoon Command Squad 105 4 Flamers Chimera Heavy Flamer 3 x Infantry Squad 295 1x Commissar Power Weapon Meltabombs Plasma Gun Autocannon 2 x Veteran Squad 370 3 Meltaguns Grenadier Chimera Heavy Flamer Leman Russ Demolisher 165 Heavy Bolter x2 Hydra Flak Tank Battery 150 Heavy Bolter x2 Hydra Flak Tank Battery 150 Heavy Bolter *edit for the Hydra's having heavy flamer, now have Heavy Bolter, it did make more sense since these tanks rarely move the way I use them. **edit for the Demolisher having heavy flamer, now have Heavy Bolter. ***edit thanks to Blktom's advice. Dropped the Hellhound and made my blob and vets more survivable.

I would get rid of the autocannons in the blobs as the blob is supposed to be moving, and therefore can't fire them. I'd also switch out the heavy flamers on the hydras for the heavy bolters as the hydra is a ranged tank. I'd try to find points to upgrade the grenade launchers in the blobs to meltaguns. Lastly, I'd suggest dropping the hellhound for a vendetta to give yourself some ranged AT

I'm not a big fan of the Vendetta (I know it rocks but still... to each their own). The blob mainly stays put to protect my Hydras unless the scenario deems it necessary to move.

Totally disagree with this. the blob looks like it is suppose to sit back and bubble wrap the Hydras to keep stuff from DSing within 6" to protect them from meltas and assault.

Agreed.

Eh... I would normally agree with this advice, but I am not feeling it with this list. Everything besides the Hydras and the blob should be driving forward. PCS should be used to clear out enemy in cover camping objectives and then hold it or move to the next one. I can see the Hell Hound working well in this list, I just don't like just having one. If he did do the Vendetta, it needs a SWS with flamers or something to make it scoring... removing the Chimera from the PCS and putting the PCS in it would work fine IMO.
I would also lobby for plasmaguns in that static blob, as if terminators DS back there, 3 rapid firing plasmaguns give you a chance to tear them up, much less power armor like Vanguard or Sternguard. If that is to expensive, meltaguns. I think you need a powersword or four for the blob as well. Three meltabombs on the Sergeants give you a chance if a walker gets in CC with it. I know I am talking adding on 75pts to the blob, but as the player need to decide if your willing to take those risks. I can totally understand if all the blob is to you is a throw away unit with a few extra AC shots to protect your Hydras. That is an acceptible use. But keeping them survivable also means you have a good chance to defend a home objective and the hydras.
I also like the idea of a Multi-Melta on the Hell Hound over the heavy bolter. I do not like the heavy flamer on the Demolisher... to short of a range to be effective and doesn't make best use of Lumbering Behemoth rules where you can fire the HB and the turret. I also think the HB gives you better versitility for range of targets. But if you want to pay for the upgrades on the blob, I would consider ditching the Hell Hound. Heh, with the extra 60pts I would consider a SWS with 2 meltaguns and a flamer to give you further rear area defence or give your Vets Grenadiers for further survivibility. I am sure you can find stuff to use those points on.
Good luck! List looks pretty solid. Oh, you should be able to list the points of a single unit. So yeah, list Marbo's points.

I'd like to thank all the people who posted these great tips to help make me make this list something to be proud of! I tried looking for places to pull points so I could get some plasma or meltas for the blob, but couldn't find anything I could give up... except possibly Marbo and putting those points other places. I don't know if I should do that though, I'm not a fan of suicide units, but being able to drop that demo pack looks like it could do some serious damage to a gun line... unless the dice gods see otherwise XD Something else occured to me earlier as well. If I was to try and escalate this list to a 1750 or even a 2000 point list, any ideas on what to add? Another hellhound most definitely ;p but besides that I'm a bit at a loss. The IG just offer SO much!
