Hello guys,
I saw someone post about Baccus 6mm Napoleonic miniatures, and i must say they do look very good. I was thinking of getting into other Historical Wargames, especially of the Napoleonic era, and looking at these models and prices I would be interested in starting this game system. But I would like some insight first. Are the Polemos Rules sets good for gaming? Are the prices good for over time spending? And what are 6mm models like to paint? Thanks for any help on this topic!

The Polemos rules are designed for fast play of large battles. You roll for initiative points and add the quality of your generals, this gives the number of formations you can activate.
When you get a formation into range of the enemy there is a dice off -- both sides roll a D6 plus factors and the difference between the rolls gives the outcome. Formations usually get tired or disorganised rather than destroyed, so you try to have a reserve ready to plug the gap if you have to withdraw a unit or it retreats.
The smallest infantry unit is a battalion (600 men) which would be represented by a 60 x 30mm base with 24 infantry figures on it. There are also cavalry, command and artillery units.
You can get Army Packs which contain enough figures to make a small army.
https://www.baccus6mm.com/index.php?content=products/napoleonic&detail=napoleonics
10 battalions of infantry
6 squadrons of cavalry
4 artillery pieces
Some command models (generals)
Cost = £32
That's a good way to start. You can then build up the army by buying more Army Packs or smaller packs. A pack for four infantry battalions (96 figures) is £5.50.
Painting 6mm is easier than people think since you don't do any small detail or shading on the figures. You paint the basics and do a wash.
There are guides on the site.

This means you can nearly always adapt your bases to a different ruleset quite easily just be changing the ranges slightly.

Sweet thanks. I was looking through the website and noticed the sheer amount of miniatures in an army box, and i was wondering about the size of the games. It sounds very interesting, thanks for the information!

Actually I'm interested in hearing some reviews about Baccus as well. How are the minis? Quality, etc... And a review or the Polemos rules?

The figures are great.
Bear in mind a 6mm model is about the size of the hand of a 40K model, so you can't expect a lot of detail. The idea is to use lots of them to create the impression of a large mass of troops.
Irregular Kossacks.
Kurassiers.

The second edition came out a couple of years ago to clear up some minor gripes in the first edition. The set is only £15 and contains the General de Brigade and Marechal de l'Empire rules back to back. My army is based for Marechal de l'Empire on 60mm square bases.

Thanks for the pictures. Are the rules for Napoleonic the same to playing American Civil War miniatures? Apart from the background and that etc.

Perfect, Killkrazy! Thanks for that.
Looks like I'll start saving up for the 1812-1815 British v. French army set!

The most popular rules for ACW are Johnny Reb and Fire & Fury.
Johnny Reb is a regimental level game, meaning each unit is a regiment. F&F is a brigade level game, meaning each unit is a brigade of several regiments. ACW battles are very different to Napoleonic battles for several reasons, and you are best off with a proper set of ACW rules.
There seems to be a new regimental F&F available, which I haven't seen.

Actually, Polemos does offer ACW rules - On They Came for games up to corps size, and Crisis of Allegiance for larger games. Can Johnny Reb and F&F be used with 6mm?
I may just check that out at Historicon, since the theme for this year is ACW!

You can usually modify a set of rules for a smaller scale quite easily even if it isn't built in.
Baccus promote a method called 6mm on 25 where you use 25mm scale bases and mount four or eight 6mm figures to represent one 25mm.
