Hey im new to the wargames community, i have been playing m.t.g for about 9 years and have always enjoyed games like risk, and axis and allies, and was a huge fan of mage knights, but i had never heard of warhammer before just recently.
im in the Asheville NC area and i would really ewnjoy getting into warhammer but i dont know of anywhere to play or really even how the armies work, so if anyone could give me some help this is a game i would love to get into .

Hello!

I own a store in Mocksville, NC. It's probably a trip for you, but we have a great crowd that's willing to help with beginner games. You can also do a zip code search on the Games Workshop website to see what stores are close to you, and get in contact with a closer store to try to get in a demo. I believe that there is a store in or close to Hickory that does stuff with GW products as well. I hope you can get a demo somewhere, it's a great hobby to get into.

welcome buddy!

Best advice i could give you is to visit your nearest games workshop/hobby store (internet rocks for this purpose) to get a personal overview of the game from the staff. After reading up on the races which interest you, decide how you like to fight. Do lightning fast strikes on bikes, with tanks or from the heavens above appeal to you? i suggest eldar, space marines and dark eldar.
Do you like huge armies of berserk slabs of muscle? choose orks.
Do you want a hoard of clawed, ravenous aliens that run at break neck speeds towards its enemy to engage it in brutal close combat? Then Tyranids are for you.

Befor you collect an army...deciding how you want to play the game will save you alot of time and money. pick a race, get their codex, decide how you want to make your army (i have all my eldar mounted in grav tanks) then buy the models that work for your chosen battle style.

Good luck with 40k!

Definitely do as brother captain rawr suggested, and also look through the rules to get a good feel of how the game plays through.
