In the most recent FAQ they specifically stated that you can throw multiple types of grenades, and that it wasn't a problem.
Q: Can a model equipped with multiple grenades use
all of them in the same Assault phase? (p36)
A: Yes.
Also in the Space Wolves FAQ they state that:
Q. Picture this: My Grey Hunters unit including Ragnar
Blackmane is assaulted and makes a successful Leadership
test to Counter-attack. Do they then benefit from his Furious
Charge special rule (+1 S and +1 I)? Also, can the original
assaulter then deploy defensive grenades to rob the Space
Wolves of their Counter-attack bonus? (p55)
A. The Counter-attack special rule only confers the +1
assault bonus and no other advantages normally
associated with assaulting. Therefore Ragnarʼs unit does
not benefit from Furious Charge. Also, we think it is a bit
rich for an assaulting unit to get the bonus for attacking
and defending, so no, defensive grenades cannot be used
to negate the bonus attack from counter-attacking.
So here is my question, are those two FAQ ruleings opposed to each other? In addition, it seems to state that that the unit with Defensive Grenades cannot "get the bonus for attacking and defending". Did they mean at that time you couldn't throw assault and defensive grenades when I enter combat? What if I choose to just throw one type of grenade and am assault a unit that isn't in cover, would that work to deny counter-attack.
I guess my question is does the change in the way that grenades work have an impact in how this rule is used, as I can throw any grenades I want now, with no problem.

The first ruling says you can use all the grenades which are LEGAL to use. The second ruling says that defensive grenades are not legal to use against counter-attack when assaulting.

Oh, I misread the first FAQ. I thought that meant if you had frag grenades, krak grenades, and melta bombs, then you could use all of them in an assault phase; one attack for each type of grenade. So, essentially, 3 attacks for each model equipped with the aformentioned grenades.

You can use all of them. For example, you can assault through cover and benefit from Frag Grenades while trying to plant Krak Grenades or Melta Bombs. When you have two assault grenades - Frags and Psychotroke for example, you get to use both of those too and Rad Grenades as well!

No.
You use one or the other, as you are only allowed to make a single attack.
The FAQ does NOT change how grenades work.
