How's it going Dakka? Been a while since I started a thread.

So here's the deal; I have a great, awesome friend, who's got great sportsmanship and plays 'nids; however, he keeps losing to my IG! It sucks for both of us, because I don't even need to try; I usually win. He never tastes victory, and I'm bored from the lack of challenge.

So I need help, to give him a badass 'nid army to kick my ass with! Ignoring what my friend has, what is a great Tyranid army to beat me to all hell? Money isn't an issue!

This is the army I used recently for a 1000 pts game we had (if it seems sub-optimal, that's because I prefer enjoying my games rather than beating my opponent; HENCE THIS THREAD)

I really don't understand this post. The OP asked for a 'Nid list to beat his IG with, and you bring this to the table? I'm not trying (not really) to be rude here, but how about actually reading the original post before replying. mmmkayyy Thanks.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

Maybe he meant Tyrant with wings? Probably not.

I think the problem is, if he brings a horde he'll suffer under your templates, if he brings nidzilla he'll suffer under the autocannons/plasma.

I'd love to help more but I havn't played nids since mid 4th ed.

With my ork army I find speed and cover saves are a pain for my friend who plays IG. Perhaps he could try a brood of carnifexes under a venomthrope or behind a tyrant with tyrant guard as a deathstar?

I'd suggest he take Genestealers and Outflank with them. Never have i feared a unit more in all my time in playing this game than Outflanking Genestealers *cowers in corner and cries*
Personally i'd take:
Hive Tyrant with Wings, Additional set of Scything Talons and Hive Commander - 255
2 Zonethrope in spore pod - 200
3 10xGenestealers all with Scything Talons - 480
2 3xSpore Mines - 60

995pts

Deep Strike and Outflank everything then again it might be better to Infiltrate the 'stealers in a 1000pt game on 6'x4' table. *Fingers-Crossed* for first turn.

I'm not a 'nid player but as a Guard player i know what scares me.

I wish your friend luck in his future games

Peace Out!
Jonny!

A tervigon with the termaguant spawning upgrade (or two) plus supporting horde units.

I played aginst these and I had a fair amount of throuble with a guard list not disimilar to the OPs.

There was just too much to kill, and I would suggest that you do not have neary the same amount of Pie that I had. Its much the same tactic as using blobs but with added MCs rather than LRs.

March them forward, take your licks (knowing that more are being spawned) and then munch the squishy T3 guardsmen that are in your way. MCs for bashing high AV targets. Prehaps a unit of genestealers or a lictor to suddenly appear in the rear and take out the HWS.

Killkrazy runs this sort of list, you should look at his tournament treads to see if you can glean any further tips or possible lists.

Yknow, I find that's true; one genestealer squad, anywhere, and whatever they're striking is !

He does use a Tervigon, but possibly not correctly?

@Rubber: ...Spore Mines?

To be honest i had no idea what to do with the spare 65pts and it would be pointless to spend it on (imo) unnecesssary upgrades. Saying that, i do think they have potential; firstly, S4 AP4, Large Blast will mess Guard up, secondly, because of this they can potentially dictate the deployment of your units. For Example:
If they successfully Deep Strike around the centre of your deployment zone hiding your infantry in the centre of the board to avoid being Outflanked is no longer a viable option. Also, because they are deployed before the deployment phase, if they scatter wildly your opponent can still use them to his advantage (maybe gaining a good Infiltrate spot) or atleast still get the best possible deployment. Yeah they are mostly sucky but in this circumstance they might pay off *shrugs*

How about:
2 Tervigon with Crushing Claws, Adrenal Glands, Regeneration and Catalyst - 480
2 Zoanthrope in spore pod - 200
2 10xGenestealers all with Scything Talons - 320

1000pts

That seems a little tougher but Tervigons are overrated, imo. Still a pretty nasty unit for it's points cost

All this seems a little counter-productive to me... How is your opponent going to best you if you know what he's going to do?

Peace!

Bump of justice. I want a list that makes it tougher on my list above to work against.

Genestealers. A friend of mine plays them. By some special rule, they can DS and emerge from any cover and assault the same turn. I do not know if he can take multiple squads, but even one such squad is very dangerous. It should assault a large enough blob that the blob dies on IG assault turn, so the genestealers can hide in CC until it is their turn to strike again. They also can kill the tank since they hit the back armor.

Another idea is hive guard (?) - the things that shoot through solid wall. Park them behind something and they will survive for a long time against this list as you got no indirect fire.

You could also change your list. Not make is a crap list, just something different. I love the guard codex because it gives you a lot of different ways to play (if you've got the models). I always fiddle with my list just to keep things fresh, I only have one opponent and on the rare occasions I find a list that beats his face consistently I abandon it and try something new. Try blobbing up!

Winged Hive Tyrants

Outflanking genestealers

Ymargl genestealers

==================

Make sure the tyrants get into CC asap to avoid being targeted by the gun line, head towards the armor. Ymargl's will get the assault the first turn they show up and its likely that the outflanking genestealers will to. I would probably throw in deathleaper to just &^% with your guys and help with the reserve rolls.
