Hello everyone,

A tyranid player at my FLGS measured the shooting with his hive guard from the muzzle of the gun - a good two inches beyond his base, and hit a model thanks to that extra little bit. Since we were playing 400 points and he admitted he had only played about 10 games, I didn't feel like raising a big stink about it at the time. I know this is wrong - all measuring is done base to base except for tanks.

I know he would change his mind if I could point to a specific quote in the rulebook or FAQ, but unfortunately the rule book (of course) doesn't explicitly state it is base to base. The section on checking range has a bit about 'simply measure the distance to the model you want to fire at' - apparently it isn't so simple.

I'm new at the club and don't want to be 'that guy' who rules lawyers everyone, but this is something that his army in particular would abuse badly with all the long tyranid guns.

Thanks - slightly embarrassed to learn it was on page 3, but I'm sure a lot of people just flip to 'checking range' like I did and never see it.

It's not in the range section specifically because it's a core mechanic that applies to all measurement in the game, rather than just to shooting.

But yeah, it's easy to miss
