Clearly GW, as a multi-million pound business, would not allow their main site to fall to such an accident. The only possible explaination is that they are recycling the old models for use in the new codex. Of course they will be re-made in Finecast to the highest standard.

But, i can tell you me and Ward have been working on super-charging the Necrons and adding in a modern twist that everyone will love...
You can now take a special character named Optimus Prime who has a power axe and can turn into a truck that carries 50 Necron warriors and is immune to shooting.
Scarabs are actually the new heavy support, each one has a teeny tiny super-death-gauss cannon built into it's body that can fire even after it turbo-boosts.
And we have also been working on a beautiful piece of fluff where an entire legion of necron warriors actually regenerate whilst being exterminatused but they regenerate too fast for the exterminatus to kill them, they eventually combine to form a gigantic mirror which reflects the lasers and kills the orbiting ships.

Erm ... are you familiar with Necron models?
Current Scarab models are integrated into the Necron Warrior sprue, so you normally don't need extra Scarabs.
These are indeed 2nd edition models for collectors or fans or people who need even more.
So this is not an error, but a service.

BTW they also offer the 2nd edition Necron Lord in the Collector's range:

Is it just me or the 2nd edition scarabs look way cooler? (ok, only 2 on a base kinda fails at *swarm*, but still...)

Most of the 2nd ed suff looks much cooler...

It's also not new... They've been up there for a year or two now.
