I have a friend who plays Ultramarines, I say Ultramarines because he will not use any special characters from the codex if they are not Ultramarines. He is looking for tactical advice, as I do not play Marines, and have a limited knowledge of their tactics and codex I do not feel comfortable giving him advice. We are looking to make a list at the following point levels they may have any different number of units from the other lists.

His list for 1000, is something like

librerian , nullzone, vortex

3x10 tacticle squad with rhino

2x vindicator.

He will play according to the fluff, ( he has stated this several times.)

My main question for him is simply can you have a Ultramarine, army played with fluff and still have a decent army? It does not have to be super competitive, just playable.

this isnt that bad of a nilla marine list in matter of fact its probably the best its going to get in a 1k game

but to answer your question simply open tanks or destroy infantry with the vindicators then let the tacs sit/park on obj

equipped with missles and flamers and a pf they should do just fine

I belive the squads will have one missle launcher one will have a heavy bolter ( I have tried to talk him out of this he wont nto take it, and a melta in the other .

I have a 4000 pt space marine army with models of basically every type, and I bought Marneus Calgar because I like his story, but I don't find myself ever using him because he is so many points, at what point game would it be actually feasible to use him? apocalypse is all ive used him in so far...
