Hey all,
I've been working on my marines as of late, but have run into a small problem. I have a good amount of the older metal scouts, about half of which are the bolt pistol/CC weapon versions. My issue is that I don't know how to paint the knives, as I don't want to have a silver marine carrying a silver weapon (my marines are Doom Legion) I was thinking about trying to paint the knives like carbon fiber, but have no idea how to go about it. I would just paint it black and highlight it grey, but seeing as the majority of the scout cloth is the same, I wanted to do something different. Any advice or other suggestions are welcome!

Ok, I did a quick mock up in paint.
It looks like first you'd have to do multiple stripes of a gradient from grey to dark grey. You could probably get away with doing this with only 2 shades of grey.
Then do a check pattern of black on top of that.
It would be pretty cool to see that attempted on something as small as a scout's knife.

Go with a ceramic blade then.
They come in lots of colours.
I have a ceramic chef's knife in blue. Works like a charm and cuts damn well, too.

I was going to suggest blue. If you look at some of the books (the horus heresy stuff springs to mind), the combat blades were switched on and off for use. With minimal conversion, you could GS a small button or switch on the handle with a small wire to the blade and then give the blade an energy colour such as purple, red, green or blue which could look great!

If I did do a ceramic blade of some sort, what color should it be? I don' have any pictures of my painted mini's so I can't post those up, but they're pretty much stock doom legion marines. The scouts still have the green chest eagle and silver armor, and then black cloth (I'm not sure if I should paint it camo or not)
