before Dawn of War? even before Firewarrior?

I had Final Liberation. i dont know what happend to it, im sure its in my house somewhere.

anyways i was about 4 or 5 territories away from conquering the entire map, when my game began to crash, and no matter which of the 5 territories i tried to conquer the game would always crash, so i was never able to beat it. it was fun though, i was using baneblades and the largest of the Titans to conquer the world.

I've played Final Liberation, that was a fun game although based on Epic rather than 40k. I had the old Chaos Gate too and I know i played SotHR as well (and didn't understand it at all).

I still have a copy of the original Space Hulk. One of the first games I had that made use of my sound blaster card.

Ahh good old space hulk my teacher had a copy of that when it first came out on his PC. Many a Tech lesson was wasted blasting genestealers lol

Also had all the other others as they came out. The fantasy ones were really really good.

I used to play Rites of War, but the CD was sadly taken out of working order after getting grinded against a floor and tables through years of neglect.
Why did I not learn to be careful with my stuff before that happened.
Oh well...I guess it would not work on Vista, even if the CD were not scratched.

Final Liberation was a great game: poor graphics and unreliable, but my god was it fun! Could spend hours playing it; I particularly loved close quarters fights on the city maps!
I had Chaos Gate too, which was also unreliable but pretty good (less so than then FL). Nice depth too; was great knowing each Space Marine. IIRC however I could never get a frickin' Land Speeder to move!

Enlist as a virtual Ultramarine! Click here for my Chaos Gate (PC) thread.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

The sink.

I have Chaos Gate and Fire Warrior on my computer right now. Fire Warrior is just god awful. The save points are waaaay too far apart.

I've also played space hulk briefly.

Chaos gate was the best warhammer game ever. If it didn't crash so hard all the time it would have been the best game period. It's just so great, you guys.

I had it working for a while on vista, almost unlocked terminators. Then it crashed and now I can't get it to run anymore.

I would snap up a 40k Turn-Based game so hard it would fly into next week.

I tried to play it a few times and it seemed really fun. Sadly, I too could not get the game to stop crashing

Firewarrior's multiplayer is good for a laugh or two.

I used to own - and played -

Final Liberation - Fun game, imo, though I thought that the resource thing could have been handled better. Watching the cheesy full-motion videos without playing the game was also amusing. That Warlord Titan looked COOL! Too bad it was only on-screen for a few seconds. The final mission was also ridiculously easy. The orks I fought always had forces that corresponded with the forces that I brought. So if, say, I took a Titan unit into the last battle, then my opponent would have Gargants. Oh, and the Ork Warlord leading the whole invasion would be the lone infantry stand sitting in the middle of the map. So I'd blanket that unit with volleys of fire and kill it (not hard when you've got titans)... and instantly win the battle!
Chaos Gate - Started it a couple of times, but never got very far into it
Space Hulk - The *original* one with the Deathwing, and not the later ones using the Blood Angels. Played a lot of this. VERY creepy, especially late at night while alone. "AMBUSH!" Never did finish the campaign though. Anyone know what the final mission revealed?
Rites of War - I started it a few times, played through a good chunk of the campaign, and then quit. And then I'd restart from the beginning and the process would repeat itself. Kudos for the fact that to date it's the only 40K video game that focuses on the Eldar and PROPERLY shows how the Eldar handle things.

Hm, I didn't know there was an Eldar game.

It's based off of the old Panzer General engine (the original engine - not the one that powers the X-Box Live Arcade game from a year or two ago; SSI released several games using that engine including Panzer Generals 1, 2, and 3D, Allied General, Fantasy General, Star General, and Rites of War). Basically, the farseers of one of the craftworlds foresee the need to launch a full-scale assault against a nearby Imperial world. They do so, and initially they're only going up against the local troops.
Spoiler:
Then reinforcements arrive, including Space Marines. The reinforcements start fighting to stop the Eldar... but then the widespread genestealer coven on the planet reveals itself at the same time that the forces from a Tyrannid hive fleet arrive. With this turn of events a shakey truce is established between the humans and the eldar to fight off the tyrannid threat.

Good thing that the Eldar assault caused the Imperium to send reinforcements to that world, isn't it?

In this plot the farseers actually foresee and properly manipulate the string of events, as opposed to Dawn of War and Dawn of War 2, in which the Farseers somehow manage to both miss the fact that their mucking about on thus and so world is going to draw the attention of the Blood Ravens, who are going to completely destroy their plans.

Mostly just space hulk. I'm not a fan of turn based games which a lot of the older stuff was. And I've always been a graphics junky which GW games have failed miserably with until very recently.

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

Rites of war and Chaos Gate, along with the two Space Hulk games.

Rites was quite good, if you just play it as a strategy game, not 40k.
Chaos Gate for (rough) tactics. I can't remember how accurate to 40k (the rules) it was.
Space Hulk were good, with the timer counting down.
