Hello there, just after a little advice

Am a Greenstuff novice and am trying to make a fur hat for a model. As a base i have used a smallpiece of plastic tube about half a centimetre long. Once cured i have been leavign the gs for half an hour then "wrapping" it around the tube and covering it at one end to make a basic hat shape. I then leave it to cure for an hour before going back and using a hobby knife to create the fur. Problem is, despite vaselining everything up, i cant get the hat to stay in the same shape whilst i model the fur. Am i not leaving the gs long enough to cure before attacking it? any tips would be appreciated

Green stuff sticks to all the wrong things. I recommend using silicone sculpting tools, you cant get GS to stick to that with a nail. If the shifting of the model is giving you trouble, you may want to try working in smaller sections, rather than trying to sculpt the entire thing at once and risk ruining it. It takes longer, but the results are typically worth it.

Ex nihilo

If the GS is still soft enough to mold into fur, your grip on the piece you are modeling will bend it out of shape.
Same problem when you've done half of the hat, and then need to hold the spot where fur has been sculpted to move on to the blank patches. Your fingers/tweezers will crush it back into a flat shape.

Try this: Press a flat rectangle of Greenstuff onto a glossy piece of paper, like a magazine page you tore out. Then use tweezers to pinch the greenstuff upwards into the texture you're trying to make. Let it mostly cure, then roll the paper into a loose tube, fur on the outside, being careful not to crush the fur. Once its in a tube shape, tape it so it doesnt slide back, and let the GS sit for several hours.
When you come back, you can peel the GS off the glossy paper and the fur bits will have fully hardened, but you'll still be able to bend the GS a little, and it will want to change back into a tube shape due to the limited plastic memory the GS has, making it easy to either roll the GS into a tighter tube or cut/superglue it into position.

Hope this helps.

Also, there is a fur hat ork head that you could just cut the hat off of.

Sometimes you can find eBay auctions for 5-10 of them
