So this will be my first ever battle report so please bear with me on the inaccuracies. I promise I will get better in time!
Who: Me vs my buddy Jason(who is not a dakkaite but is a huge lurker)
Where: His appartment in Ruston Louisiana
Scenario: 2 objective mission on a 4' by 4' table as part of a 40k in 40min tourney(THIS WAS JUST A PRACTICE GAME THOUGH). Side holding most objectives wins. if there is a tie on objective go to kill points, if a tie in kp go to vp
Terrain: none unfortunately, we were just stopping by his apartment for a night on our way to a wedding and forgot to bring any with us....so we decided we were playing on a salt flat...this ended up making the game quite brutal. Oh and if you were tabled you lost automatically.
Armies:there were lots of restrictions on what you could take so these may seem a little wierd but trust me they are not off the norm for lists we have seen in the tourney. and all legal checked over by the TO's

So ON TO BATTLE. I(IG) won the roll to go first and we were off, remember we only had a 40min time limit. it was truly brutal. Oh and my memory has gotten a little spotty on this so bear with my mistakes please.
Deployment:
I deploy everything back as far as I realistically can except the chimeras. I don't want him scything me down with storm bolters as long as I can. This tactic ends up not working as he deploys everything as far forward as he can so that he can still be in range.(Oh yeah.....storm bolters assault 2 not rapid fire.........and we are on a short table.....uh oh) My objective is in my back left corner sat on by 2 squads. His objective is toward the middle on the right side so that he can push up to it.
IG turn one:
I didn't have too much to do. I move the veteran chimera up to get the 12" melta guns in range and let him have everything. I divided fire with two infantry squads and the pcs chimera and troopers shooting the 10 man strike squad and the other infantry squad and the veterans/chimera hitting the 8 man squad Between the 3 autocannons, I did exactly 1 wound. Between the Multilasers and heavy bolters on the chimera I did exactly 1 wound. He saved both of those. With all the lasguns I did a grand total of 3 wounds.......lasguns wound more than heavy guns.....huh? and surprisingly he fails a save!!! he was a bit miffed about this. But frankly so was I, how is it that the lasguns kill someone where all the heavy weapons don't Now the Plasma gunners from my PCS gun down 3 grey knights(gotta love ap2) however one of them rolls a one and fries himself. The Meltagunners over on the right kill off two more grey knights from the 8 man squad. Jason tries to concede here having lost 5 of his 18 knights in one salvo, but I tell him that he needs to shoot once and then tell me what he wants to do. He agrees somewhat reluctantly.
Grey Knights turn one:
He moves up a full 6". This actually takes him off his objective but he doesn't care I think. He is out for blood. He points the 8 guys on my left at my infantry squad covering my objective and points his 6 guys over on my right at the exposed infantry squad there. There is much carnage. Firing his psycannons in assault mode btw. So between the two squads he kills off oh around 15 guys(gotta hate the 5+ armor vs the AP5 guns?) and the rest just flee. So after his salvo I am down to 2chimeras 1 infantry squad, my pcs and my veterans.
IG turn 2:
So I once again just let'em rip. Although I did move my PCS chimera up to rapidfire. Ahh IG one of the only armies where just standing and shooting works out well. On my left the infantry squad does a smattering of wounds, which he saves. On my right the Veterans open up and the melta guns kill off I think 2 and the veteran lasguns kill off another. So he is down to three with that squad but he rallies. The PCS in the chimera shoots again rapid fire this time and take out 4 more knights. No one kills themself this time and my liutenant says "Yay!" Now that squad is down to 4 and Jason says he id going to shoot that chimera.
Knights turn 2:
Jason remembers "Oh yeah my psycannons are strength 7..." and shoots two at my PCS chimera and 1 and my veteran chimera. HE moves the knights shooting the PCS and so they go assault mode. The knight on the right shooting the veterans goes heavy. Between them he immobilizes my pcs chimera and stuns the veteran one.
IG turn 3: by virtue of my immoblization and his movement my plasma guns are no longer in rapid fire range so I have the bright idea to get out of the chimera. I move around the side....and am still not in range....there goes a turn of shooting with my marine killers. I have the actual bright idea to leave my veterans in their chimera. They are a little closer and do end up being in range. The infantry squad on my objective finally kills someone, felling a grey knight, and my PCS chimera also finally kills one. so he is down to his two psycannons on the left. They don't flee though. Tough guys. Over on the right my veterans melta gun/lasgun his guys to death and I am becoming more impressed with the lasgun. They accounted for a few kills here against marines no less. SO he is down to just his two psycannons. I think I have things in hand but you never know.
Knights turn 3:
HE lets my plasma gunners have it but gooood. Everyone dies and I am actually scared. He could now theoretically move out of the immobized chimeras fire arc, use it for cover from the veterans, and blow away my squad on the objective, meaning we would tie on objectives. And he would have 3KP's to my 1KP...uh oh.
IG turn 4:
My veterans stick put for some reason....I think I thought my chimera was immoblized?...... Over on the left my squad once again opens up, as does the immoblized chimera and with relief I blow away the two psycannon marines, winning the match!
Afterthoughts:Jason and I are pretty rusty with 40k. Been playing WHFB too long and we made some mistakes throughout. We talked about some tactical errors we both made and he stated that if we end up playing again in the actual tourney his first targets are the two chimeras. We also decided that if we had had some terrain, some cover things would have gone much different. We could not simply have blown people away without saves. I literally didn't make a save this game, never got the chance haha. We also decided to go read the rulebook again to brush up on things to be ready for the tourney which started this week.
Well I hope it wasn't too arduous to read. I'll get better about the writing, and more importantly I'll get better about my note taking. It was hard for this deal simply cause we needed to act so fast.
Cheers and For the Emperor!
