Thanks man, as those are my Eldar (the house, including table and terrain, are Klueless').

I drained the bitter cup of defeat that time, but I will have my revenge sooner or later.

That was awesome. Loved watching the game. It was way better then scrolling down 40 pictures and reading a novel worth of explanations. Wish I had a guiness to down with ya guys. bravo.

Great battle report. Sucks for Eldar loss. Hopefully you'll be able to get your revenge next time!

Amanax - Spears are truly useless, my opponent has tasted bitter defeat with them many times & has now accepted that they suck. Well, I guess thats not totally true, they do what they do very well, it's just that they get killed immediately after!

How? I personally don't play eldar but I expect them to be able to dish out 50-80 shots per turn that should take down 1 MC a turn, no matter how lucky his saves are.

I think the fact that he stuck them all in tanks and left them in their reduced his fire power alot, which can't have been good :S

Haha, fair enough. I was just surprised to see them in a full mech list. I know we have a few members on here that swear by them, I just find that their cost is horrible for their lack of survivability! Seems he has come to the same conclusion by the sound of things. Like I said previously, I hope he gets his revenge soon

The units which stayed in tanks were all 5-man dire avenger squads. It really isn't smart to get them out of the tanks in the face of MCs, dire avengers are pretty much dead weight in KP games against anything without much light infantry.

Eldar can do really well against MCs, but on this occassion, partly due to luck and partly because of good positioning by Klueless, my army ran out of steam quite fast. It doesn't have that many guns, each tank has one good weapon and there are 2 squads of fire dragons - unlike, say, mech IG, most of the troops are useless against hard targets.

My key mistake was the faffing about with the spears in the face of the venomthropes. I was unwilling to assault any monstrous creatures with them because venomthropes grant defensive grenades, shining spears have few enough attacks as is (I did not remember this until that turn) but I could not finish off the venomthropes quite fast enough. So in the end, I should have thrown the spears forward regardless, couldn't have gone any worse.

So if I had the game again I would have deployed differently, and tried to snipe the venomthropes at range first. I am thinking constantly about different methods of deployment, movement and firing plans for a post-shining spears eldar force. We shall see.

ok fair enough but surely you could have traded the "dead weight" of the Dire Avengers for squads of gaurdians with those weapon platforms they get that would have atleast given you a few more shots.

But i'm still new to this game really so you probably know it better than me ^.^

Dire avengers are usually agreed to be the best troops for a mechanised army. Reason being, effective squads of storm guardians are much more expensive, guardians are more expensive and you can't fire from inside the wave serpent so the heavy weapons are of limited use. Dire avengers are a bit of a drag in KP games, yes. But in objective games, they are the best option - because all eldar troops are fragile and pricey, it's best to just keep them in the tank, which is more mobile and better protected. And dire avengers give you the most 'scoring tanks' to work with.

It is a real problem for eldar. But it's sort of unavoidable, due to general codex creep and the prevalence of vehicles and 3+ save infantry, the whole troops slot is pretty poor.
