I think its to mock the loyalists, it's like a cruel irony that gives endless amusement to what is now a cruel and debased faction. Although it must be said that the legion is fractured and some warbands have taken new names, such as the Flawless Host.

The Emperor's Children Legion was the overall favorite of the Emperor. As a result, it's a cruel insult against the Loyalists. The Emperor's favored Legion is now one of the most powerful Chaos Warbands.

I don't think the Flawless host are actually members of the Emperor's Children. They kept the name as an insult, same as the eagle wing badge.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

Agreed with the cruel insult part, but the Emperor's Children are far from "one of the most powerful Chaos Warbands". The Emperor's Children started raiding other Legions for slaves, until the other Legions got fed up and bitch-slapped them across the Eye of Terror. They are shattered bands of raiders and hedonists. Of course, the Thousand Sons lost their best and brightest in the Rubric debacle and expended their remaining strength against the Fang, while the World Eaters were shattered into roaming bands of berserkers in the same final conflict that split the Emperor's Children.

The descriptor of "one of the most powerful Chaos Warbands" could probably only be applied to the a.) Alpha Legion, who retain the most active status of any of the Traitor Legions; b.) Word Bearers, who remain unified and are second only to the Alpha Legion in fomenting cult activity in the Imperium; c.) Death Guard, although Typhon is off kind of doing his own thing; and d) Black Legion, who remain mostly unified behind Abaddon.

And Huron Blackheart probably puts them all to shame.

I looked up what you said on the Internet and though you're right about the Emperor's Children getting bitch-slapped, the Black Legion is still stronger than the Red Corsairs. Its the stronger Chaos force and has been since the Horus Heresy.

I did say "probably", and Huron is still way cooler than Abadateverythingdon.

Actually, they lost everyone except their best and brightest.

On the original subject, it's because they know they're losers and wish they had made better choices in the life.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

No, the best and brightest were involved in Ahriman's cabal. It is pretty much spelled out in Battle of the Fang that they were the most skilled and capable in the Legion. Magnus exiled the whole lot of them. The ones that were left over were the second stringers. Then below them were the ones that didn't even survive the Rubric.
