Subject: Necron advice on objectives
|
 |
Bane Thrall

Nothing makes my heart sink before a game of 40k then hearing these words: "Ok so the mission is seize ground with 5 objectives."
I run a necron destroyer wing, when it comes to kill points, i cant remember the last time i lost, when its objectives, i just kinda panic the whole game. Sure i'll kill alot of models, but at the end of the game have one objective. I only field about 20 warrior in an average game and find their lack of mobility incredibly disheartening for getting to objectives. sure the monoliths help, but it seems whenever i try to take an objective, they just get pulled into combat from whatever else is there guarding it and, well i think we all know what happens next..
My list is basically this:
lord w/ 8 immortals rez orb, vod
alot of destroyers,
2 monoliths,
a deceiver
20 warriors
And advice would be greatly appreciated

Wait for the update.
I know this is a super unhelpful answer, but I can't really give you a better one, I'm afraid. With the current codex, your only scoring units are warriors, and you just don't have transports. If you're desperate, you could take another Veil-lord and teleport a big unit of warriors around to an objective, but that's gonna grab you one extra at best. You are pretty screwed when it comes to lots of objectives.
The last ditch effort sort of thing that you could do would be to have a few scarabs hiding out of LOS to turboboost towards enemy objectives last turn and hope that you have last turn...but since you run a Destroyer wing, you probably don't have the spare FA slots available.

Deepstrike/move monoliths onto /near objectives, and teleport the warriors to the portal for an objective grab on the last turn?
Or just kill everybody ....
Necrons suck at objective games..
|
The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Yea there isnt a whole lot you can do about it currently. Necrons are at that stage where they are getting a new dex here shortly, and they are just suffering terribly for being so out dated.
Try to kill them all, or sit your liths on objectives to block them from the player. Its tricky as all get out for them.

Can't do anything bout it, just advance on the enemy and try to wipe them out. Something that might help is leaving your warriors hidden preferably on objectives, and putting mono's on other objectives (if the mono is dead on nothing can actually get to it). then KILL everything if you can. Last turn grabs, maybe 2nd last with the veil so you can move onto the objective, can help.

Your key to an easier time with this is before the battle even starts, objective placement can help massively.
Even if you only get to place 2 of the 5, make sure you put one as close to each long table edge as you can, preferably in cover. This means whichever edge you get, your Warriors walk on from reserve to claim. (you ARE reserving your warriors aren't you?)
The next 2 objectives are for your 'Liths to float over to and contest. Most armies have incredible trouble shifting a 'Lith, especialy if it has a Deciever hiding behind it.
This now frees up your destroyers to smash whatever he decides to try and hold his own objective with. Your last unit of warriors should lurk behind either 'Lith or backfield in cover ready to claim or teleport to a nearby objective late game.
I dont play 'Crons myself but have played against a very competent 'Cron General many times at my local club and variations on this theme have done him proud a lot.
Hope this helps.
