Can the xv8 use it's 6" assault move after it deep strikes?

under general Rules... Yes per the 40k FAQ:

Q: Can a unit equipped with jet packs make its normal
move in the assault phase if it arrived by deep strike
that turn? (p52)
A: Yes it can, unless it specifically states otherwise.
Remember that you cannot use this move to launch an
assault on the turn you arrived by deep striking.

However the Codex: Tau Empire rules on page 27 Specifically disallow this(it also makes Crisis Suits not Relentless).

Stealth suits Also cannot make the Assault phase move.

Gun Drone Squads, however, can make the move.

this is a big bummer. I was hoping xv8s and 15/25s could could.

Whenever Tau get a new Codex update I am sure that they will all just be Unit Type: Jump Infantry(Jetpack); and therefore will all be able to(along with all being full-relentless).

But until then you are stuck with units of a specific type, that are also specifically denied most of that unit type's abilities.

I suspect so as well Kel. Got my fingers crossed for early next year.

let's be honest this is along time to wait to for a rule to apply to as Tau players.

What's worse is that it is you tau players that got jet packs first.

Then the Jet pack core rules added more awesome stuff to jet pack units that are very specifically forbidden to the original units that had them(and there are very few non-tau jet pack units to begin with, I cannot even think of any Codex Jet pack units off hand that are not Tau).
