If you decide to deep strike a unit out of range of an icon, and then scatter towards the icon, do you stop as soon as you move within 6"?
I'm thinking yes, but not sure.

No
A unit that is within 6" does not scatter. A unit outside of 6" scatters. Those are the only two allowable options.

No when you place the first model to determine deep strike is when the icon kicks in. Otherwise you already have checked for scatter and must continue with how far you scatter. The icon does not interrupt like the homing beacon on drop pods does.

Just to clarify, the drop pod may take a locator beacon and it works the same way. If you choose to arrive within 6" of the beacon you won't scatter. If you arrive outside the 6" range, no beacon and you scatter the full distance.

Sorry i should have been more clear. I was trying to differentiate between an icon and the special drop pod rule that reduces scatter. I can't remember the rule name off the top of my head.

Ah! Okay, and that would be the Inertial Guidance System
