In single planets yeah probably.
Across a system maybe if there are several inhabited planets.
Across the Imperium... unlikely unless it's a Navigator house or a Rogue Trader.

It seems like there's a whole lot of command economy going on. "Flint? You're an agri-world. Don't build hives."

This seems to be the case.
40K fiction has a lot of planet ville happening. I would estimate the level of galacticization, for lack of a better term, as analogous to the level of globalization during the 18th or early/mid 19th century, replacing countries with planets.
Some 40K fiction makes it seem a little more 'globalized,' and some makes it seem a little less.

Is there mention of some strong companies on several world or maybe few hundred?
Or maybe mention on some cultural exchange between several worlds?
Automatically Appended Next Post: purplefood wrote:In single planets yeah probably.
Probably not, because so far in 40k only 1 culture can be found per planet. It's not like every planet of the Imperium is like today's Earth with xxx cultures and states...
And the point of globalization is for people to be hired by some firm 13.000 LY away, cultural sharing on level of sector, one company to open it's factories on several worlds, mass production and mass selling of goods etc...
Munitorium is a good example of this. It has all aspects except cultural. It hires people from many different planets, it's mass producing goods, it's goods can be found everywhere.

Planets are really undersized in 40k fluff. The TVtropes link posted earlier nails it - there's literally no way 100 Space Marines could cover a planet, even if each of them covered 100 square miles. This happens in the fluff all the time though. I think globalization is thinking too small for 40k, it's more by star system.

The point of globalisation is for a company selling goods in Country A produces those goods in Country B where it is cheaper. In a single planet Hive A might make Shoes whereas Hive B might make Socks. The company selling shoes in Hive B will have them produced in Hive A and sell them in Hive B. Vice Versa the company selling socks in Hive A will have them produced in Hive B but sold in Hive A. And each Hive has a different culture. They are in essence a country of their own. They may have the same overall rule (The Planetary governor) but intra-hive troubles are covered by its leader (Ruling noble house etc etc). This can be seen in Necropolis where the Ferrozoica Hive has had past history with the Verghast Hive. They had a war and Verghast won with assisstance from some other Hives.
