What is the point of Shrike's rending claws? I mean, they're power weapons anyway. Only thing I can think of is for attacking vehicles, but... Why?

Yeah it's for vehicles. And quite nicely too since otherwise he'd only be able to glance rear armor 10. Now all glances are penetrates against armor 10.

Yeah... Extra D3 on vehicles.

Not to mention it enables him to wound things (Wraithlord?) that he normally could not given his S 4.

This. Master-crafted Lightning Claws with Rending give you a fighting chance against opponents with high Toughness. Wraithlords, Tyranid
MC;s, certain Daemons and so on. With a charge Shrike gets 5 attacks with one re-roll To-Hit and re-rolls for wounding. Not too bad all considered.

I think a better question is, why do shrikes even exist LOL, Soooooooo terrible.
