Hey all,
A friend of mine has just brought his IA9 book round & I've been reading through all the new entries & I'm confused by one thing (that covers a couple of other things, actually).
Q) Are all the units viable for all applicable gametypes?
I ask this because some codex entries specifically state things like "If the game type does not allow the Flyer Special Rule then this unit is treated as a Fast Skimmer". This says to me the unit CAN be used in other game types, just with a single modified rule.
Then there is the likes of "In game sof Apocalypse, Artillery Barrages can only be taken in forces of 2,000 points plus". Again this says to me they can be used in other game types without the points restriction.
Finally, most of the Heavy Support choices are made up of Tank Squadrons...I'm not familiar with seeing 3 tanks per single unit in games outside of Apocalypse but there doesn't seem to be a game type restriction of them.
If I can get confirmation on any or all of the above that would be great. I've read quite a bit of the fluff already & I'm really enjoying it, the special rules they have & the (now unique IG+SM) army setup is really making me want to get ahold of some models...I'd just like to know what is & isn't viable first ;D.

If you have your opponents permission then you can use IA in normal games.
Use the adjusted rules for the flyer so it becomes a skimmer instead.
Some tanks can be taken in squadrons, these are explained in the BRB but essentially they mean you can have 1-x amount of tanks per whatever FOC slot they occupy.

It's fine for using in standard games, when it says may only take X in games of apocalypse it means that. Which means you can take x3 artillery bombardments in under 1000 points in a standard mission, but you make only take ONE per 2000 points in apocalypse (this is to prevent taking 20 bombard strikes and carpeting the enemy deployment due to lack of Force Organization in apocalypse)
Unless if your opponent agrees on using the Flyer special rule, use all Flyers as fast skimmers. It's honestly no fun when you bring an army of Flyers, and your unprepared opponent has no AA weapons making it a completely one sided game.
Tank Squadrons are very common. Read the Guard codex for examples.

Thanks for the quick responces!
You've pretty much made my day, with Huron's excessive use of his fleet I'd have hated to 'not' be able to rain down some artillery ;D.
I did second guess myself about tank squadrons being part of the IG but I don't have the dex so I couldn't check.
Again, really appreciate the replies, I'll be getting to work writing a "mostly competitive" list now (friend in question has already asked in our local & they allow IA indefinately), wonder how long that's gonna take me xD.

Keep in mind you can do almost anything in casual play and with opponents permission, however, do not get the idea that you can use any Apoc stuff in a tournament. Despite what the rules may say tournament organizers have the final say as to whats allowed and what is not; and Apoc stuff is almost always the latter. This means practically everything from the Imperial Armor books. Keep in mind that this is extremely rare. I would hate to have you spend a fortune on stuff only to find you can't really use it anywhere else.

Thing is, the stuff in the IA9 list is stuff that you'd take in a regular guard/marine list anyway. Oddly enough it's basically a guard list that can take Space Marines as opposed to a space marine list that can take guard stuff...
Anyway, you can buy all the things you need to make the list then seperate them later if you feel that you don't like how the list plays out (you don't even need to buy FW models for this list, which is neat-o) and some choices don't even require models (like the ordnance strike which is basically)
