So went to my lgs today picked up a pretty decent haul, but much to my chagrin it was all finecast. Now, I know, I know there's 96 different finecast threads and it's a hot topic, but I'm not really here to complain. My first impressions where a little less than favorable but it was more annoyance at the ammount of flash that was left over on the sprues when I looked theem over, but the flaws where few and far between so I went ahead and picked some up anyway. I got a Haemonculus, a grotesque, and a box of wracks for my budding de army.

Initially, after opening the blister of the haemonculu I noticed the finecast was great on detail, but seemed a little too soft almost spooky how fragile it seemed by comparison to the metal figures, but in the name of science we must drive on.

Now I prefer to paint my peices before I build them, so a little time consuming but I like the results better, so we obviously start with priming, which is always no problem. I use krylon grey, easy to apply, quick to dry, and good coverage. I then base coat, I used rotting flesh as a general base coat, I let it dry and apply a quick coat of sepia wash to start getting the texture I was looking for, I let that dry then move on to paint his armor, black base, blood angel green plates, goblin green highlight, with a tan drybrush lightly over to give it that extra little push. I painted the arms in the same fashion, used a steele paint for my metal bits in his spooky ichor bracelet thing, blood angel green, on the bubbles of....stuff.

I then finished my building, and finished the peice by using sepia wash in varying coats across the figure

All in all I wasn't as let down as I thought I would be with the finecast models, and I really can't complain aside from the feeling of fragility, I still prefer metals, but the fiine cast looks good still

The result:

Tell me what you think, I will be updating this with the rest of the figures after we see how they end up

Maybe I'm missing something, but there looks like a lot of flash especially on both hands, sword, and the symbol above his head.

If you do decide to get rid of it, careful, that softness means you can cut a finecast in half with a file. I've had much better luck just picking it away with a knife.

Thanks for the tip man, I was a little iffy about taking a file to the soft resin so I'll try a razorblade next time and see how it works out

The black legs are a bit featureless against the black base. Are you going to highlight them?

I still gotta base him, not sure what I wanted to shoot for for that, was thinking some woodland flooring, maybe with some sm bits and gore to give me an excuse to mix up some more gorey wash for his legs

I'm liking that guy a lot better! The first guy is just a sad cast IMO... so many mould lines and flash. Makes me ill. At this point in time I couldn't see myself spending monies on this so-called "finecast". I have yet to see a GOOD casting -.-
