Hey All,
Just curious, as I see the new Force on Force books published by Osprey, and I'm wondering now: Is Ambush Alley and Force on Force different or the same? If I buy the main game for Force on Force, can I use ambush alley supplements? Thanks for any help.

The new rules, Force-on-Force, are a revised combination of the original Ambush Alley and Force-on-Force rules.
They include everything you need rulewise to play.
You can indeed use the old supplements, the only major change is to the vehicle rules that have been completly re-written to provide a far better system. There are numerous revisions and clarifications but not too much that will alter gameplay or the usefulness of the old supplements. Indeed alot of people are trying to get hold of the old supplements for the scenarios.
So you will need the new vehicle stats but these will either be in the main rulebook or in additional supplements, but they aint too hard to work if they aint and the AAG forum will always give an answer to any queries you may have.
The Iraq 2003 book is out, the Afghan book is due next month, thats followed by my Vietnam book in October and a Cold War book in December.
Next year there are books on Somalia, Fallujah, African Wars and South American wars.

Ah. Enlightenment finally
So if I got old supps, new rules, it'd work out? How much conversion would be needed, just the vehicle rules?
BTW, I'm probably gonna blow a crap ton of cash on Elhiem's figs. I'm super diggin the 2009 Marines and the Taliban. Afghanistan supp comes out next month you say?

PS: Thanks for all the help there Big P

Really you will just need to use the new vehicle stats. The scenarios will work fine with the new rules - Of course you mind find the odd anomally (such as asset cards which no longer exist but these can be easily replaced by Fog of War cards or you just continue to use your Asset cards from the original rules!). In short, yes you can use the new rules with the old scenario packs with no real bother.
Indeed, the first supplement due next year is a re-working of the Day of the Ranger scenario book.
If you get the main rules, most vehicles are in there. If you get Road to Baghdad, then that covers anything in Iraq in '03 (plus 20 scenarios).
Afghan book is out next month... Elhiem have done a limited edition USSF sniper to go with the books bought direct from AAG.
After that we have my Vietnam book, Ambush Valley, due in October. Thats the biggest of the supplements with LOTS of material for any Vietnam gamer and six new scenarios.
Thats followed by Cold War Gone Hot in December that is a group work by several of us on the AAG Team and thats gonna be a really fun book to play through with a ton of interesting, and very varied, scenarios!
Plus in September 'Tomorrows War' is out - The Sci-Fi version of Force-on-Force.
Busy few months for AAG & Osprey!

Ok, wow a lot to take in. I think I'll just wait for the Afghanistan FoF supp and go from there. Thanks a ton Big P.
Can you recommend a good manufacturer of resin or metal modern vehicles?

Ah. Standard stuff. 20mm 1/72 ish. I just really have no interest in the standard plastic 1/72 kits all the time (Tamiya, Hasegawa, etc...) for my vehicles.

Big P, you really should just take a half hour and just make an article on here with links to model ranges and Osprey. Save yourself the trouble of answering the same questions (I've done it too with your KGN thread)

Do it up. I'd for sure be interested in giving it a read.
The problem I'm finding right now, is I want Canadians. You wouldn't happen to know who makes any specific Canadian Infantry in Afghanistan eh? I saw that S&S Models had the LAV III, and now that's getting my FoF ball rollin.

Well there aren't any army lists in any Ambush Alley Games, and no point costs either. You play with what feels appropriate. It's much more a historical gamers game.
That being said, you can easily make Canadians the same way I did. Take any US Army figures with M16's and take the top rails off. Add an optical sight and you've basically got a C7. You can fairly easily modify the SAW into a C9A1 as well. The C7A1 has a Grenadier variant too.
Standard C-Forces sections are the same as in the Force on Force US Order of Battle... 8 Riflemen to a section, 2 Fireteams of 4. Each one has a rifleman with a USGL and typically a C9 as well.
CF Platoons are usually 3 Sections led by sergeants and a Command Section led by a Lieutant and with the Staff Sgt in the second fire team (this is a generalization of course). You can just use the Order of Battle for US Army as a Jumping off point for training and equipment level.
I use Black Scorpion USMC with modified weapons as my C-Forces Peacekeepers.
If you want some info check out The Canadian Forces Website which should give you general info you need.
Seeing as you're at CFB Cold Lake though you likely know all this... but it might help out someone else missing Canadians from the FoF OOBs.
Cheers
