When you take one does it....

A) Take up a HQ slot on its own,

or

B) Are they taken as an upgrade for their aspect squad, ie: A SM Command squad or Tau Shas'o bodyguard, which do not take up an force organizational chart slot.

Put simply, can take a Farseer, Avatar and a Pheonix lord or am i restricted to just 2 of them?

Their place in the army list and a lack of wording like that of a Space Marine Command Squad means it should be obvious where they fall in an Eldar army. What would lead you to believe that they would be anything else?

They are an HQ choice just like a Farseer or the Avatar. You can have 2 Phoenix Lords, the Avatar and a Phoenix Lord, a Farseer and a Phoenix Lord, Yriel and. . .you get the point.

Am i not, as a member of Dakka Dakka, allowed to ask a question about something that puzzles me? Is that not a privilege i have?

Thanks puma for your concise answer. Very helpful.

These forums are not a replacement for a Codex. The answer is clearly in the book, his response is correct.

Yeah maybe so, but he didn't have to be rude about it.
I do have the codex and if you must know, i don't always understand things that well. Things that should make perfect sense sometimes i have trouble understanding. So people being snide about things like that aren't helpful.

Anyway doesn't matter anymore cause i have my answer.

That's just Ghaz.
He's normally like that.

Just put him on ignore and you don't have to deal with him if you don't want to.

I WISH phoenix lords were just an exarch upgrade. It would make them suck less.

As it is, they are a HQ choice that is just a slightly more powerful exarch.

It seems like there are a few others who need to take their own advice. It's not rude to ask why what is a perfectly clear rule in the codex confused the OP. How is he going to explain his position if it comes up in a game with anything other than "someone on the internet said so"? Seems to me I'm the one who's owed an apology for the rude replies while trying to help the OP.

I didn't see that as so rude, he simply asked why he wasn't sure if they were an HQ or not. I think it's a valid question as it is spelled out quite clearly in the dex as they are listed under the HQ section. He never once called the OP stupid or insulted him in any way. I think you're misinterpreting him.

He didn't really give an answer, and the post can be read as questioning the OP's intelligence. Just keep in mind that some newer players aren't as solid on rules as you are. Reading, remembering and understanding close to 200 pages of rules before you even build your first army is quite a step to take for a new player, and it takes quite a few games and additional codices to be sure about everything.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

And the OP's question on what to most is a very clear rule makes it look like all he was doing was fishing for rules. Hence the question asking him why the rule was unclear to him without giving him a definitive answer immediately.

I just said your post can be read that way, never that you did mean that.
