Its getting bad reviews. Was wondering what Dakkaites thought.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

He was in an interview with a guy on Fox recently...
Wasn't wearing his outfit though which is a shame because you don't see green on good guys much...
I'm told the film isn't that good...

I saw it. I'll preface this by saying I have nearly all of the silver age GL's from 100 through 224.

It didn't suck as much as I thought it would. I won't post any spoilers, but they were genuine to the GL history, although Parallax and Hector Hammond certainly weren't 100% true to the book.

I like they way that Sinestro was portrayed. I was hoping that the next movie would have more of the Emerald Dawn mini-series (Where Sinestro takes the time to train Hal), but that's not likely to happen.

My only real disappointment was the part after the credits.
Spoiler:
Sinestro just takes the yellow ring. There is really MUCH more that leads up to that. The tragic fall of the appointed leader of the Green Lanterns. He was their voice to the guardians, made sure the new lanterns were trained, and lead them in battle. But he was exceedingly arrogant, and has a falling out with the guardians over the way he treats his people on his home sector. Basically draconian laws. (Spit on the sidewalk? Death.) His taking of the yellow ring was out of despiration and wanting to prove to the guardians that his way is right...but trying to kill them all and taking over the universe... Anyhow in the 45 seconds after the credits rolled in the movie, you didn't get a feel for any of that. He just looked greedy.

If I hadn't been a big GL fan, I would have watched the new X-Men movie instead. But I'm glad I watched the movie. I hope they make it a trilogy. I'd like to give them a chance to make Sinestro into the bad-ass he was in the books.

I thought it was decent fun. Special effects were generally very good. Romantic scenes weren't cringeworthy. Little pop at Batman Begins which made me laugh. Don't have to sit through the entire credits for the sequel set-up scene.

I guess the let-down is that it doesn't stand out, but at least part of that is due to the saturation of these movies at the moment. Depending on your view of how much time you want spent using super-powers, it might also suffer from a weighting too much in favour of back-story rather than use of powers.

tl;dr: above average without standing out.

Trailer looked like a cartoon to me, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (adds the secret Kung Fu Panda 2 fan hastily), but I like my superhero films to be a bit grounded if possible (superpowers and gadgets aside).

Still, if you saw it and enjoyed it, fair play to you.

Well, it being directed at Batman Begins is speculation on my part...
Spoiler:
Hal turns up with the mask and the deep voice and she's says I've known you all my life etc did you think a face mask would hide that

Also @ kronk, never read GL myself, but having done a little (and I mean little skim-reading-based) research, it sounds like the proposed trilogy is semi-inspired by the recent trilogy of series that started with Rebirth, albeit without the need to crowbar Hal himself back in.

...urrrr... I dunno

I'd give it a 7/10.
It was enjoyable, and the funny bits were genuinely funny as opposed to cringeworthy. I loved the depictions of the famous Green Lanterns, though I'd have liked to see more of them, and the depiction of the Guardians as aloof bureaucrats was spot on. However, oddly, I didn't think there was enough superheroing (odd to have to say that, isn't it?) and the fights with both Parallax and Hector Hammond both ended a little anticlimactically.
Even with the flaws, I'd be happy to see the sequels, so all in all, not bad for a first effort.

I took that more as a poke at general comic book tropes.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

It just felt like it was missing something, I guess that Hector's last scene was not climatic enough :/ Either way, I would like to see a sequel!

I read a draft script about a year ago (in the version i read 'parrallax' was called 'legion'). I enjoyed the script.

Spoiler:
It had a good fight between loads of green lanterns and 'legion' when it escapes from a prison cell in Oa, Hal takes the fore though because of his courage and pureness of heart etc. If i remember right however this happens before he fights hector hammond in the original script. Oh and Killywogg and Sinestro come to earth to help out. I am getting the impression that is pretty much the movie though.
