Since I am a SW player I decided to create an SS themed SW army which includes the SS symbol variosuly painted on certain models and and tanks. Would this get me kicked otu of a Tournament,I know its a touchy subject but I really like the theme of the army, as far as symbols go its mainly just SS units insignia's and heraldry, no swastikas or serious hatefully depictions towards any one specified group. Really just RUNES , HERALDRY, and INSIGNIAS. So woould this theme get me kicked out of tournaments if my army had such symbols on them?

Well, I don't know what it's like in Canada (almost wrote Cadia there! =o ), but here you'd probably bump into an anarcho-communistic (!?!?!?!?) kid who'd probably be too weak and small to dare assault you at the spot, but would run off whining and come back 20 minutes later with another dosen of his friends, break a window on the tournament place, then run off thinking they've made some huge deed of heroism in the glory of anarcho-socialism (again, !!?!?!?!?!?).

Uhm, no. The SS used normal runescript S's, so that shouldn't really be a problem as Spacewolves use runes... That... Sort of are simular to real runes I think? Haven't had a very close look at it. What sort of insignias and heraldry are you talking of?

Why the SS? Why not use your own symbols and create something new that is not laden with controversy? One of my squads in my SW army uses the 's' rune for their squad marking, but only one of them.

Well I actually have an SS symbol painted on one of my Land Raider redeemers, which fits my paint scheme quite well seeing as its SW but instead of yellow I rely heavily on Black and the secondary colour. FYI looks freakin awsome, but can't help you with the Tournament problem seeing as I havent actually needed to bring my LR to one yet. But I think it has the possiblity to be taken the wrong way.(Was pretty much a result of a bet and thats why the symbol is there)

I've used symbols from pretty much fromt the 1st to the 20th division excluding the swastika ones, With my blood claws getting the Hitlerjugend symbol and WG getting SS Adolf Hitler and the Grey Hunters getting the Wiking symbol, while the LF get the Death head.

Personally, if I was going to make a new symbol for my SW using Futhark runes, I'd go Tiwaz Mannaz or something similar. (War Man)

Really, it isn't hard to come up with something unique.

Ummm.... Yeah. Don't really know what to say about this.

I like to keep my murderous future armored soldier guys and such separate from depictions of real murderous past soldier guys. This would make me a bit uncomfortable.

Just a guess but from looking at your profile pic, He probaly likes WW2 german armies and or maybe the SS in general.
As to your army I would probaly suggest taking out the Deaths head as it is pretty anti-jewish but otherwise just avoid the swastika and you should be fine I guess?

Why in god's name would you give the LF the Death's Head? I am positive that, even if you wanted to use that period of history and country, you could have picked a more appropriate unit type than the one responsible for administration of concentration camps.

What does that have to do with Long Fangs? I got the Hitler Youth thing for Blood Claws, but really...

Umm sorry to ruin your day but the wiking symbol is a swastika as of how you didnt catch this is beyond me but for Gods sake remove that symbol its a freakin stylised swastika.

Yeah, that one's kinda... Uh... Yeah. It's a swastika.

In wargaming clubs you'd probably get away with anything you want, but I'd say avoid anything alluding to Nazism in tournements or Gamesworkshop stores... people are usually a bit more touchy there. ...Why SS symbols on viking's anyway?

The other thing I never understand about folks who want to do WWII german armies is why they always do space marines.

I would have a bit more understanding if it was an IG army. Maybe some nice conversions and paint work with a DKOK base... But trying to go off the whole Superman thing just doesn't help the cause.

I also learned what the wiking symbol is based on this thread. Interesting.

My friend forgot an IG mini at my place once. For funs and giggles I painted it with a grey uniform and dark armor, with the shoulder-pad on one side red.

Funnily enough he kept it that way as he thought that was cooler than the paint scheme he used.

Here is what you should have said at first.

Many of the runes used to denote different SS units were derived from the ancient Viking runic language which Hitler decided were one of the progenitors of the modern German race. Some wer already found in the Space Wolf design scheme.

Just avoid the more blatantly Nazi symbols, like the aforementioned swastikas, and you'll be fine. Most people won't even know until you tell them.

But in reality, it was germanic tribes settling in scandinavia that became the vikings... How wrong people can get things.

If it makes you think "Will this offend people?" you probably shouldn't do it.
