Had a blast at the tournament, even managed to get 3rd place with the debut of my new Angels of Vengeance Deathwing.
This was my second tournament there and I have to say that the store owners and staff were great! The fact that they carry a frig stocked with Rockstar Recoveries made my day.
COMMENTS ON THE STORE:
The owner and staff switched to a new tournament format. The 15-10-5-0 (Win/Tie/Loss/Concede) format with 4 bonus points and I personally thought it was a fantastic format. I can’t wait for the store to get some more terrain, but if they continue to progress like they are, this store will a great local asset.
COMMENTS ON THE LOCAL GAMING GROUP:
The local group of gamers, the Inland Empire Gaming group was the biggest bunch of cry-babies I have ever heard in my life. The store got rid of their old crap-tastic scoring system of 3-2-1 and they threw a complete and total fit. I swear, I have seen better behaved behavior from my 2 year old.
Additionally, the “PRESIDENT” of the Inland Empire Gaming Group – an individual who says he does NOT like to play competitively – was the loudest voice against the store adopting a more balanced scoring system.
Lastly, it was my opinion as an outsider watch the events unfold that the primary issue of contention was that the store owner had taken control of his tournaments. The Inland Empire Gaming Group had even scheduled an event at his store without asking his permission. Then when they didn’t get their way, they took to bad mouthing the store owner on their Facebook page where only members can post: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_198353093532674
Disrespectful to say the least; but more accurately can be described a being a bunch of childish arses.
It has been a long time since we had a store in the Temecula/Murrieta area; while I will gladly travel to GMI, Pair-A-Dice games, or Game Empire to have a game; I really like having a local store that is willing to run tournaments and then throw money into the pot to make the payout larger.

How many showed up? I've been thinking of popping up for a few events (about an hour drive up the 15) but have reservations concerning low number turnout or "game store gangs" playing smack the newguy.

Their were 10 people this time.
Last time I was there, they had 16 players show up.
There is one local group of gamer the a fore mentioned Inland Empire Gaming group which I will label as a bunch of whiners.
However, there are several other local gamers who come to the store whom I am sure you will have fun playing. While several of them are competitive gamers, they are all fun to play.
Do not let my irritation at the childish behavior I observed throw you off from coming, I for one would like to meet and play you.

Was hoping to see you.
Like I said when we talked, I think it is more about the fact that they wanted to be in-control of the store and have everything their way.
While I am irritated at the group, I had a blast playing. Plus, a really competitive and fun player has come back to the area after being in the army and despite "that group" I have had a blast playing...
...just the background noise that is distracting.

The shenanigans they tried to pull last time and the incompetence of the "President" left a bad taste in my mouth, i am glad i didnt make the drive out there for more of the same .Seems that 40% of the players felt the same way. If they keep up the good work they will kill the store in no time.

Azgrim, The store owner has taken over the tournaments.
After talking to him, he and his staff are making a concerted effort to run solid events without that group. Come out again, I would love to have another game against you.
Plus, I think you will like the new format; the best part is they are no longer running the show.

I came to the tournament as an observer due to arriving late and I noticed right away people were upset because they had come to the store expecting to play a 2500 tournament, which is perfectly reasonable. Talk about a ball buster... showing up and being told that list you made up and where planning to use will not make it to the table today. I understand that and sympathize.
However, after reading that facebook page I feel nothing but contempt for the "IEG" not at any members individually but for how it is presenting itself as a whole. I can recall the president (not a bad guy at all just not right for the job) being frustrated and yelling at a competitor at a previous tournament. That stuck with me as I am sure it did with Thou Shalt Game. I sympathize with the players who showed up expecting a 2500 tourney, but completely support TSG's decision in wanting to steer the store into a more respectable route in so far as playing Warhammer 40k is concerned. The rules were printed out and copies made for the players which is fantastic. As to the rules, they did not seem outrageous enough to warrant the amount of bitching and seemed good for tournament style play, I feel people were just upset at not playing 2500.
I plan to continue play 40k at TSG, it is a great store and I feel will only continue to grow and get better.
"IEG" does not represent all the wargamers in Temecula. I encourage people to come out to the next tournament, it will be run smoothly, and we can all concentrate on what matters... THE GAME.

Well, the gaming group is at it again. Their president has now banned any of his players from having any dealings with me as I am the one who "helped" give the owner the new rules. Actually, I gave them several sets of rules from tournaments I had went to and they settled on these as they were the ones that were very common and easy to use.
Here is the their new Facebook message:
Presidential Order No.1
The man known as Jason (that is me - Magilla Gurilla), who wears thick black frame glasses with short black hair. No member is allowed to be friends with him on facebook, or have any dealings with him at all. Anyone! who dis obeys this will be BANNED from IEG. This man as posted on forums attacks against our club and is the reason behind the new so called swiss-rules. I better had made myself clean on this. I will be talking to the owner of TSG about this problem.

Well, to their credit it seems like the store is moving in the right direction. I have been in there a few times and the staff is very cool and they are extrememly accomodating to the gaming community around here.
Hopefully this will all blow over soon; it just seems like some people are throwing tantrums because they're resistant to change.

That group is a joke.
Their "President" (a high school kid with asperger syndrome- not a exaggeration) barking orders at people twice his age, over a hobby game.
The store owners would be wise to bar that groups leaders from the premise.

The store owners and staff are well aware of the situation and have taken what I consider the necessary steps to keep a diverse clientele.
The problem is that is not only the "President" but the grown arse men who are or should be adults that are helping to not only fuel the situation, but to also feed his ego.

This is just too funny. If you go to Google and type in "inland empire gaming group" ALL 220 hits return Mag's A*shat award linked across every 40k blog with a blog-roll on it.
Maybe the pres should consider the "publicity" his group gets when he behaves like a dictator and "bans" group members from even associating with another player - especially one who has a blog as big as Mag's.

I was just reading through this thread, but to be honest living down in San Diego I didn't even know that there was a game store up in Temecula.... I have a friend who lives in Hemet and is begging to find a group of guys to play with. Unfortunately he doesn't play very often, because he thinks that it is an hour drive to any game store from his house. I don't know if he will be able to get away for your next tournament, but he'll be glad to know that there is a place to play that is somewhat close.
