I understand that attacking characters count as seperate units when assaulting and only models from a unit that are in base contact or within 2 inches of a model in base contact can assault an independent character, but my questions is can an independent character attack the whole unit or just the models in base contact. For example, Lets say I have an Ork warboss joined up with some boys, I assault a 5 man SM tactical squad. My boss contacts 2 of the Space marines and the boys contact the rest. Lets say I inflict 5 unsaved wounds with my boss, Do I kill all 5 of the space marines (assuming they have a profile of 1 wound each) the rules make it sound like this would be the case since they are only one unit, but i just want to be sure, because the reverse is different. My opponent can only attack my Warboss and inflict wounds with the 2 models touching it since my Warboss is a seperate unit. Just trying to get a solid clarification. Thanks

THey can assault, just cannot attack the IC. Minor clarification on terminology there

An IC, like any other unit, attacks the unit(s) they are in base contact with. Treat the IC as a one model unit

The reverse is NOT different, it is exactly the same.
