I played wow for a few years, thouroughly enjoyed it, BC being my favourite expansion and pvp my favourite part of it.
However it ran its course and like most people in the early days I invested much to much time and affort into it.
But of late a few of my friends have picked it back up, mainly levelling characters from 70ish onwards.

Anyone still playing regularly that can advise what end game battleground pvp is like balance, gearing up, fun, new battlegrounds wise?
Its about the only interest I have in the game and freely admit have very happy memories of it but am well aware of the rose tints.

In short should I resub for a while, have things changed for the better (played LK for a month and dropped it) or has it recaptured any of its magic?
In a way Im fascinated to return and see whats up, on the other hand I am loathe to do so

I played WOW for the duration of the free trial, but that was as much as I could stand. I played DDO for a few weeks, but it's just as repetitive. Whatever happened to pen and paper RPG's?

Cataclysm is by far my favorite expansion. The PvP was fairly shocking to start with but it has since been tweaked and is fairly balanced. The new regions are wonderfully detailed, quests are new and interesting, as are the story-lines, although there is a lack of choice in how to progress. My favorite parts are flying mounts in Azeroth and the new raids. It's worth at least trying for a month.

Thank you, does pvp still rely on resilience as its primary stat?
Would it be possible to do pvp decked out in instance blues/pve gear or is the gear divide still there?
I'd be playing disc priest primarily. Maybe a resto druid if I ever got him levelled up.

Yeah, resilience is still very important, don't know if it's the primary. As for the gear divide, I don't think it's as prominent in this expansion, but the PvP gear is still very much recommended for the bonuses. The good thing is that PvP gear is actually very easy to obtain in this expansion, only requiring honor, which comes in at a fair pace if you do some battlegrounds regularly, as well as the daily PvP battle zone Tor Barad. For example, it took me maybe 2-3 days of playing only in the evenings to kit out on PvP gear.

For PvP, resil is very much the primary stat. You do get PvE PvPers, who can put out large amounts of damage due to having extra stats that resil would otherwise take the place of (they're also able to re-forge other stats, which you cannot do with resil), but they lack resil, and are pretty much glass cannons in that respect.

Battleground PvP is still very much the territory of several classes über alles; Mages were only getting stronger during the last patch I was a part of (I recently quit because I seemed to have bad luck with my chars, tending to enjoy the weaker classes which meant I never got anywhere due to nobody wanting me), despite already being probably the best PvP class in the game; Hunters were still alright, as were Rogues (Rogues were actually pretty much balanced when I left, which I never thought i'd see in my lifetime).

Warlocks were also okay. Priests in general weren't amazing; Holy Priests were the worst PvP class to be for a time because they were outhealed, and were about as resillient as a wet paper bag, unsure of how they are now. Shadow Priests were okay, if you could juggle self-healing when necessary and damage, then you were pretty much sorted. I remember taking on several Hordies on my own in Arathi Basin and coming up trumps.

But they do have weaknesses, mainly their cloth, and the fact that damage comes from 1 class, like Paladins; if you can shut down their magic class, they can't hurt you, all that's left to do is make sure they don't outheal your damage, which shouldn't be a huge problem since Shadow healing is VERY mana inefficient.

They also suffer from cast times and channeling. If you can interrupt their channels or beat on them to hinder casting, then you're sorted, all they have left is a series of DoTs.

Feral DPS Druids were also pretty mean when I left, my Warrior barely managed to lay a finger on a good feral drood between them stealthing, stunning, bleeding etc. If the crap hit the fan, they just switched to bear form and tanked you to buy time for help.

Balance Droods were okay, never got to see much of them, but they didn't seem overly powerful. Shamans were and oddity, you'd get supremely good shamans who seemed to shrug off everything, and then you'd get shamans that were only good at dying. I never managed to get a good idea of their strength.

Arms warriors were good, as were fury if you didn't know how to counter them (which was a surprisingly common problem). Since Death Wish and Recklessness were dispellable, all you'd need to do was dispel them and they'd become powerless. If you couldn't, then no matter, they'd have to wait 5mins before they could do it again. Arms warriors were less about burst and enrages, but still had their weaknessess; snaring or rooting and running away being the main one.

Death Knights were all kinds of powerful, and like Mages, seemed to get nothing but buffs.

Paladins... you know what, let's just leave Paladins out...

They were my observations though, and since they differ from person to person, YMMV.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I've been playing WOW off and on since it first launched. I went back to check out Cataclysm and at first it was a lot of fun, mostly seeing all the old zones changed, like how Loch Modan is more like Puddle Modan now. I got my DK up to 85, went through the noob quests for worgens and goblins.. but after about 2 weeks I was just sitting there by the bank waiting for my PUG to start and it just kinda dawned on me that it was all pretty much pointless and boring. So I just canceled my account again and that was it.

I would love to see a Universe of Starcraft or something though

I enjoyed WoW when it released, then again when BC released, then again when WOTLK released... For some reason I can't get into Cata. I haven't played since Cata's release. I only just canceled my subscription a week or two ago. I hear Rifts is supposed to be good but I dont' know if I can bring myself back into an MMO world when I think about all that I've missed because I was grinding or pvping. At least it was less expensive than miniatures... at least for me anyways.

I only played it once, get lvl 10 in 20 minutes and got bored. Never played it again.

WoW is boring game, going around towns and fighting...
I am more Sci-Fi kind of guy, maybe Dark Millennium will be more interesting than WoW...

Aye, I just let my sub end. It's been pretty much constant for four years, other than a brief one month out to try WaR when it was released.

Not sure what it is, but the 80-85 zones quickly lost their appeal. The mainstay of my wow gaming has been leveling alts, with one main doing dungeons and raiding.

However, I've had little time to get into Dungeons, lvling alts was becoming dull, and I've not had much interest in PvP for over a year.

Basically I feel there wasn't enough new content, and what there was apart from Uldum and Twilight Highlands, seemed very samey to stuff we'd done before way too many times.

To make matters worse, it seems very likely the next two expansions (possibly one big one?) will be bringing Northrend and Outlands up to timeline.
So I'm guessing no new major content (location) for at least another two years.

So I am playing lots of console titles at the moment, while considering trying Old Republic, or just waiting for Dark Millenium or World of Darkness, which ever comes out first.

I actually believe they're doing a combined Outland and Northrend expansion, the last will be like Bungie's Halo Reach, the perfect franchise experience.

I played for a couple months, but it just got to boring for me, and finding parties to do raids/instances with was a real bitch. Hopefully with StarWars the Old Republic coming out and the 40k mmo next yearish, those will strike my fancy more. I too am more a scifi guy, I want guns and blasters, not a fething sword and shield
