I'm building a new fluffy Steel Legion army. I'm running 7 chimeras with a command squad in one and 6 veteran squads in the others. My question is can the commander issue orders as follows.
1. squad moves forward and disembarks within rapid fire range.
2. commander issues front rank/second rank fire.
3. they shoot up the target
4. commander then issues move move move and they either get back in or move beyond chimera for cover.

I think I know they can't get back in, but if someone knows a way around the "can't embark and disembark in the same turn" rule I put this out there.

Sorry if this has been covered already.

No, you can't do that.

After your first order, the unit does the action ordered (i.e. Shooting in this case). The rule goes onto describe that the unit may not perform any further actions.

This includes receiving further orders, running etc.

The unit that received the order cannot receive a second order during the same turn. If you gave them the order 'fire on my target', 'bring it down', or 'get back in the fight' you can have them assault, assuming they only fired assault weapons/pistols.

Successfully receiving an order does not bar them from performing further actions for the rest of the PT, just the rest of the shooting phase.

However, "orders must be issued before the officer and his command squad shoot or run" means that they can't issue a further order after having received FRFSRF for example, even if it's from their own unit.

A guard unit can only recieve a single order per turn, thus your scenario is impossible.

All orders are issued at the start of the shooting phase, then they are acted upon. So if they issue FRFSRF to somebody and they shot before another order is issued, no more orders can happen that turn.

order are issues during the shooting phase, not before. Now what about a second officer? I can't find where an officer cannot issue an order to a platoon/squad that has already received an order. I'm not disputing it, just can't find the reference. thanks for guiding me to it if you would.

I can see now where I was getting confused. Note this entry on the GW website:

ap
tain Al'rahem
Suave and cunning, Al'rahem is a master of desert warfare and surprise attacks. Although he is a Platoon Commander, he can issue two orders each turn and has a command radius of 12". Although he cannot issue the Move! Move! Move! order, he does have an order that is unique to him; Like the Wind! This order allows a unit to shoot before moving D6". As you can imagine, this means that Imperial Guardsmen could close into rapid fire range, loose of a salvo and then drop back out of effective charge range - brilliant stuff!

So with Alrahem you can conduct the mission above just not with the FRSRF.

An so can Al'rahem prompt a squad to shoot rapid fire, then "like the wind" into a chimera?

Orders are issued at the start of the shooting phase. If you start shooting, you cannot go back and issue orders.

The reference is in the big box on the same page as the force org chart.

And yes, Al'rahem could do that but it wouldn't allow the chimera to move at all, so they are just a target.

CGM - not quite.

You do issue in order, and then IMMEDIATELY resolve that order - as it tells you in the rules. YUou then move onto the next one.

You cannot issue two orders to one squad, as it specifically tells you in the rules for orders. You also cannot embark a vehicle in the shooting phase, which prevents you embarking with Run Run Run regardless of whether you got out the vehicle or not.
