Space Wolves do in your face assault very well in several various fashions.
The most favored of in your face assault, makes use of one of the best assault units in the game: Thunderwolf Cavalry. They're faster than Jump Infantry, more resilient than Terminators in most regards and can walk through just about anything on foot.
At the other end of the spectrum, you have Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, Storm Claws and Swift Claws. To be frank, of the 4 choices, Grey Hunters tend to be the better option as they are brutal both on the charge and in receiving the charge, have better stats than the other options and are almost too easy to use.
With these two options in mind...the next thing to consider is how you want to build your army: Do you want mechanized assault or would you prefer a cavalry charge assisted by a firebase. Either way you go about it, you will have some rather good assault elements to throw down.

Also check out Reecius and his tactics in his sig. He goes a different direction with Space Wolves than most do, and he's made a believer out of me.

Grey Hunters: In a rhino led by a wolf guard. Add a banner, a mark of the wulfen and a pf or PW and you should be good to go for HTH combat. I know you give up the "free" special weapon but if you are committing to HTH, I think you would be better served to have the LD9 for counterattacking as well as an additional PW, LC or PF in the squad. AND you want to deliver them in a rhino
The other option that has always intruged me is a LRC with a wolf priest and 14 blood claws. That is a lot of attacks all rerolling hits.
Also I would look at probably two units of wolf scouts to cause extra mayhem on the enemies.

Actually in a LRC you can fit the full 15 and Wolf priest, unless you add the wolf guard. LRC has a capacity of 16. Fearless, preferred enemy, and 45 attacks on a charge plus an additional 4 ( iirc) from the priest himself? all re-rolling failed attacks... yes please It works brilliantly... as long as the *&*&&*^ land raider lives long enough to deliver them...>.< I rarely have any luck with land raiders... I think I've had one of them live to the 3rd turn once...

Alright, 2 of the greatest resources you will ever come by:
Just Dave's Tactica:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Space_Wolves_Tactica,_5th_Ed/09_Codex
Breaks down the army into its components, and how to use them well.
http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.com/
Website that gives battle reports, specific unit tactica, painting/modeling tutorials, and this neat little comic they just started.
Personally:
https://spreadsheets0.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?hl=en_US&key=tR-UDZmH65drdBbniq_rvMA&hl=en_US#gid=0
Each squad of 9 GH gets a WG and a Rhino. Bjorn and Dread are long range, as are the Preds. I wanted to be more assaulty, so I've also included 3 TWC.
Don't see any Long Fangs? Neither do I. I'm a rebel that way lol.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one? |
