Dakkites,

Please check out the link below. Appearently The Miniature Market (whom I have never dealt with) is offering White Dwarf Subscriptions at 50% off. Is there some kind of hidden catch that I'm missing? That is a far better deal than anywhere on the web etc. (as far as I know). Is it too good to be true? Are they going to maybe ship me the previous months issue?

I gave up on White Dwarf when they started focusing exclusively on hobby/modelig stuff as opposed to useful 40K game/mechanics/army updates etc. and then my decision was cemented when they raised the cover price to nearly $10 per issue. But this deal could get me back. What do you guys think?

Miniature market, whom I have purchased from several times, has always been good to me. Quick shipping and so on, but this is the first I have seen of this deal.

So your saying GW is "Too Big to Fail" ??? And they might somehow use the TARP (troubled asset relief program) via Miniature Market & White Dawrf magazine? I just don't see it happening IMHO.

Perhaps they are doing it at cost just to push magazines out the door and get people interested in the hobby?

Cant say much about the deal, but have ordered through MM a bunch of times and they have always delt square before.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

The catch is you will have a White Dwarf subscription and will have saved money on that crappy mag.

Miniature Market has never done me wrong so if you're interested I'd say go for it as there's probably no catch.

STRICTLY HYPOTHESIS:
Miniature Market is an online presence AND FLGS. Rumor is that they're closing their retail location (selling it out, basically), and just "putting in a register" at their warehouse so they can still "count as" a brick & mortar store.
It might be less simple than that, of course.

If that's the case, then GW might have a certain number of White Dwarfs that MM is required to order each month for "in store" sales.

These magazine subscriptions could be the ones they're ordering for themselves, and they're just selling them off at a loss to get them out the door, rather than selling a few copies of random magazines, here & there.

At,$50 a year, *I* might just pick up a subscription.
I'd wager that they don't come with any of GW's free subscription gift give-aways, though.

It is a good and legit deal, the owner wants MM to be the cheapest place on the net to get your hobby needs. As for our move (I'm one of the clerks) the retail location is moving to a smaller venue that will have less tables. There will still be tables for gaming but our square footage will be less.
The owner has ensured that locals in STL will still be able to choose where they shop and play their favorite games, by getting another local FLGS to take over our soon to be previous locale. This will ensure that all of the regulars can still go to the same spot to game, or come check out the new location that will have game space with consistent pricing between the internet site and the retail store. The subscriptions will be from our stock of magazines and will give gamers a cheaper alternative to enjoy White Dwarf, receiving the current issue every month. Of course local guys and gals can come into our retail location and pick up the magazines and see the products displayed on the shelves.
If anyone has any questions please pm me here or better yet contact us at service@miniaturemarket.com

I hope I didn't give you the wrong idea.
I wasn't trying to imply that it wasn't legit. If you're a clerk at MiniMkt, then you may well know who I am. If so, you know how I feel about you guys.

I'm a mini Mkt fan, and will continue to be. It's just that leaving the retail space to a different company, I admit, worries me. They're more "untried" in the overall gaming venue, having stuck to mostly board/card games and RPG's in the past.
It's the whole "not knowing" of the situation. That's all.

I'm definitely hoping everything works out for everyone.

This is pretty much what I presumed.
Is making them available cheaply online related in any way to a GW requirement that you buy a minimum # of copies each month?
Just curious.

Thanks.
Eric

I know who you are Eric, this is Joe. I wanted to make sure that speculations were put to bed. Change is happening at our local venue, it is unavoidable, so understandably will not be well received by everyone. As to the subscriptions (I say plural because we also have a sweet deal on No Quarter, PP's magazine, too) they are just a good deal to help sell magazines and get more good press for MM. Just clearing up any doubts.

Wondered if that was you. : )
I'm strongly thinking about one of those subscriptions. There is *just enough* coming up this year to make me contemplate it. : )

I have ordered from MM several times in the past and did sign up for the White Dwarf subscription a couple weeks ago. I got my first issue today. I came in a cardboard envelope along with a print out of all their GW prices, plus a nice colored flyer for storm of magic preorders. If they do this every month, it will be nice to have an updated price list every month.
