Hi Dakka,

Recent discussion on Anime has reminded me how much cooler cartoons were when I was young.

For those members on these boards who grew up or experienced the '80s, what were your favourite things?

Beyond cartoons, I would also need to include the music was far better than most ofwhat the '90s produced and in some ways inspired much of what we are listening to now.

My fave cartoons were:

Voltron - Lion Force or Vehicle Force... doesnt matter

Besides myself, you mean?

I really love the music from that era. It was also the dawn of the NES.

I'm sure there's more but that's all that really stands out in my mind right now.

Honestly, I don't see the big fuss over the '80s cartoons. They were OK, but nothing particularly great. And I certainly enjoyed them as a kid.

The '90s had some really excellent cartoons which I got to experience as my sister was the appropriate age during that time.

Tale Spin, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Darkwing Duck, Nicktoons, Eek, Dexter, Freakazoid...

Have you tried watching some of those old 80s cartoons recently?

Even though I am a 90's child, I was brought up in a world where ever Wednesday night, "Family-TV" night, consisted of watching re-runs of such famous cop shows. Including Hawaii 5-0 ( with the venerable Jack Lord), Knight Rider and, my personal favourite, Magnum P.I. Tom Selleck's moustache. That is all.

Star Fleet, a lot of people don't seem to remember this. But just hearing the music makes me tingle and a tear very nearly come to the eye. I must get it on DVD some time.

I don't recall MASK, was that on UK TV? Didn't care for Thundercats, much preferred He-Man.

GiJoe toys were great then, the little ones, and the Marvel comics to go with them. I could only get the cartoon on video, again I don't recall it being on BBC/ITV.

My Atari ST.

Back the the Future was cool. Doctor Who getting the axe, not so.

I used to get many 80s toys into the early 90s, so was still getting He Man and GiJoe. Now I go to car boot sales and the like and see none of these toys. I guess they've all be wrecked or thrown out now, I forget the reality is that they are all over 20 years old.

You are thinking of the 70's. At least according to Boogie Nights, which I believe counts as a reliable reference material.

Yeah Mask was, as was the toy line, my brothers and I had some of that as well. Well I had the jeep that spat out a waterboat thingy.

I remember my mate up the road had the truck and the helicopter the baddy leader owned, damn I was jealous.
