Any suggestions? I think it's quite good however always room for improvement.

For fun games its not bad. Your long ranged shooting consists of 2 hydra ac's that can only hit one target a turn. At mid range it consists of 6 ml's. You have close range anti infantry covered with your flamers. Your anti-tank, however, needs to be within 6 inches to be effective. What's worse, you only have 2 units which can accomplish this. Yes, you are spamming 9 av 12's, but you have 400+ points tied up in choices that offer you little advantage.

I would suggest dividing your force into two sections, one being stationary long range support, and the other being short range mobile troops. I don't think it's a major problem to have more short ranged anti-tank, but you'll need to be knocking out infantry from afar if you plan to go that way. The main problem I can see if a lack of range, which will rob you of a turn or two of effective firepower.

I like spamming av12 at this point level too. Running vets will give you a much deadlier list. Here's a list similar to mine at 1000 points for reference, keeping with your theme:

are there any lists you can use with platoons or are they not that competitive?

Although it is not as reliable (statistically) overall, I can see this doing half decent:

What if , looking at my original post, I drop one platoon and the hydra for some russes or some other heavy support?

You need to satisfy your FOC before anything. So if you want to run platoons you would need at least two of them. Although I think this list is much weaker due to less no saturation (ie. lucky shot on the one tank)You could do something like this:

If you will consider running at least one vet squad over one of the platoons you may be able to squeeze a second tank into the list.

Platoon lists are plenty competitive, just running them in all chimeras actually takes away from their strengths.

Lets look at it like this... you have a 50pt unit in a 55pt vehicle. Your unit can only have 1 special weapon and 1 heavy weapon and the unit has a BS 3. BUT, you can add Commissars and effectivily get 2 power weapons per unit. Vets are 70pts but can have 3 special weapons, a heavy weapon, and a better selection of weapons for the sergeant. But they can not have a Commissar with them.

Vets are very versital. They can do gunline, foot slogging, and work great in chimeras to keep those special weapons alive alittle longer.

Platoons are actually more effective blobing up PISs and making use of the Heavy weapon Squads and Special weapon squads (and even the Conscripts). But they work so much better out of Chimeras.

okay. what about a russ heavy list/ artillery with blob squads to protect the artillery?
