I have to order plastic card online since no one around sells any. So I am not going to actual be able to look at the thickness myself. So I thought I would ask you guys whats best to go with for what I need as well as what you generally use.

The 2 main things I am building or going to be some ork turrets like the ones found in the ork battle wagon kit. Both big and small. So I would like to get something that is around that same thickness. I just have no idea what that would be?

I dont want to get anything to thin or to thick so it looks "right" There are just alot of sizes out there to pick from so I am at a bit of a lose.

I also keep seeing this "black" sheet of plastic card and I am not sure if there is any real diffrence between that and the normal white everyone uses.

I got some that was about 1 mm thick or .04 inches.

Title on ebay was,

".040 WHITE STYRENE SHEET PLASTIC - Plastruct 4pk"

1mm seems to be a good thickness, for instance you could make a sm rhino out of it easy (if you were crazy and had loads of time).

For thick armour plate on tank conversions I use 3mm plasticard, but it's a bugger to cut when it's that thick. 1 to 2 mm would be a good 'all rounder' thickness

1mm has some structural strength to it, but is still somewhat flexible. I could definitely see 2mm being useful for things like vehicles as it would get significantly more rigid.

.25mm and .5mm are useful. They form a nice visible edge for detail.

Less than 0.25mm is, I think, too thin for our purposes.

Now ork tech being rather rough .5mm might be as small as you need to go.

TLDR VERSION: .040" is probably the most useful thickness, overall.

I picked up a sampler pack from Evergreen that came with .010", .020", and .040". The thinnest is almost like paper - I've yet to find a use for it, at all. .040" is a good thickness for making sturdy structures and the .020" is great for trim, curves, and other detailing work.

The "for sale" signs I picked up for cheap plasticard stock are about midway between those two thicknesses, but they have a bit more flex than I'd like. The savings definitely make it worthwhile, though. Have you considered those as an option? You may not have a plastic supplier or hobby store nearby, but you could likely find a home improvement or "everything under the sun, as long as it isn't too classy" store that carries the signs (I've found them at Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart - I'm sure Target and others would carry them, as well).

I used 0.060 on my Russ scratchbuild, it turned out well but was a little heavy and difficult to cut. I'd recommend either 0.030 or 0.040 thicknesses.
