Hi, im super sure that i saw somewhere something about having allies i only have the little rule book any help??
Having my imperial fists backed up with some Grey Knights would be awesome
or what i would rather is to have some IG for allies becasue Grey Knights would be overkill and IG would be more Realistic and act as a great wall to soak up damage

I am pretty sure that was the old rules for IG or WH (I'm not sure which ones) in 40k. I don't think they're still used. You can always 2v2 games or something.

Allies are effectively dead. The only way to get them right now (for about another month only) is to have the Sisters of Battle codex in addition to another imperium codex. Once the WD codex for them comes out, no allies anymore at all. GK are not an ally option. Of course, if you play an apocalypse game, you may have any armies that you want in your force (apocalypse experts, help out if I made a mistake by saying "any").

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

No, that's pretty much right. There's an 'Allies Matrix' in Apocalypse that suggests which alliances are more appropriate than others, but it's purely for fluff. Apocalypse lets you take whichever units you like from whatever codexes you want.

If your just playing with your mates for fun you could always just get some basic house rules for using allies.
We tried not too long ago where the 'allied force' must consist of/up to the minimum force org chart slots. i.e. one HQ and two Troops, whereas the 'main force' must fill the remainding slots. We just said that the main force must also include at least one troops choice.
We played for a couple of rounds of games like that and its ok for a change.

True, ill suggest it and see what they think, but was hopeing for some pre set rules i dont like to think to much,
Maybe use main force for the obligatory HQ and 2 troops and the optional ones i could mix it up with IG and space marines

Well they have been reintroduced to non apoc 40k if you play a planetary empires campaign. The rules in the expansion allow you to gather resources which you can spend on 'mercanary forces' or 'allies' which can be from any codex =)

The chart is also not always right. For example, it states that the Imperial Guard is never, ever going to ally with orks. However, there is mention of ork mercenaries(mostly Bloodaxes, but Bad Moonz, too) temporarily fighting for the emperor in fluff of both sides. Even on Armageddon, the renegade Guardsmen under Van Strahlen fought together with Ghazghkull's orks.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

No, it states that the orks and the IG hate each other and you need a pretty good story as to why they are fighting side by side.
How we handle allies in my FLGS is to allow for new detachments. Basically allow them to field a miniature force org(1 HQ and 1 troop minimum) to represent an attached ally.

Yeah, but fluff doesn't make it sound like "the hate each other and need a good story", it seems to happen rather often. There wouldn't be any ork mercenaries in the first place if it didn't.

Any imperial commander that pays orks with weapons is a fool. Best to ignore or kill them till they go away than to bribe them and hope they leave.

Just one troop choice? Interesting, may have to bring that up at my FLGS. We generally play them as a separate organisation force, so 1 HQ and 2 troops, outside of the original FOC.

The greater fool is the commander thinking orks would ever "go away"
Usually they are paid in scrap metal, unrepairable weapons and vehicles or, though rarely, in gold.

Well if you look at the Witch hunters codex since everyone should have it as it's a free download. The ally rules are pretty strict also on what you can take and what is required to take said forces. IE can't mix GK with anything else and if you want leman russ you have to take guard squads also.
