Inference - Millions of kids can watch porn? - If they look for it...

Children as young as eight are accessing porn. Something needs to be done now

Educate the sodding parents/carers then. Kids are like barely tamed wild animals, if possible, you should always keep an eye on them and what they are doing. The internet is not a substitute carer/nanny.

At another level, educate your god damned kids about stuff. Jeez.

GFT o.o couldnt of said it better my self, i asked my brother what was he explained, i asked my dad what was, he explained, so as a kid i never searched around for porn o.o if parents stop treating it as a taboo subject and are better educated there is the theory that there will be less teen births Holland is a good example of this theory in action after having one of the lowest teen birth rates in Europe, and there open about and simply say "wait till 16 (or what ever there age is) use protection then you can do what you want x) (i know several family's from Holland and there all pretty much like this)

Help! I'm a parent that doesnt monitor their children's access to any media. I need the government to step in and help me raise my children b/c I'm to lazy/ignorant to handle this job on my own. Please, powers that be, step on other people's rights so that my child isnt able to look at boobies. Yeah, they do, it doesn't do them any harm though. The industry exists because there are a large number of people with money willing to support it. Those kids typing in boobs on the internet are not doing anything wrong, it's not illegal, it's not something that is proven to harm children, it's simple curiosity. This law is also hypocrisy on a massive scale. Firstly, there are schemes being pushed though for sex education throughout school, starting from as early as five. Secondly, the minimum age requirement for legal intercourse is 16, two years younger than the age needed to watch it on the internet. Thirdly, with all this constant pressure to create more jobs, they are going to strangle another industry for no real reason. And fourthly, with a huge attempt to have freedom of speech and acceptance of race and sexuality, why is this money making, low-key, and non prevalent medium being subjected to 50s taboo? Sure, I don't want it being advertised, but this is ridiculous. FIFTHLY, it's hypocrisy in the part of the parents pushing this bill through. It's not the job of the state to protect their children from this. If they want to censor these kinds of sites, I have an idea, go and buy a fething security suite like everyone else. The method for blocking certain sites is actually printed on the back of my box, and information is as more easily accessed than the images they want to block.
This shouldn't be legal. It's damaging an industry that employs thousands, and goes against the freedom that Britain prides itself of having. In fact, is it legal to force independent companies to comply by these laws? Ham-fisted attempt to control the internet.
I mean, it doesn't bother me because I won't be able to access the stuff, I've gone past the stage of teenage hormone driven curiosity, but it irritates me beyond belief to think that the government could be so arrogant and hypocritical. There's definitely some ulterior motive, there's no way they can possibly monitor connections to have any sort of reliable data.
All that said, I understand parents motivations to try and protect young children, but this too heavy handed. Firstly, it should be an opt-in system. Parents should be able to contact their ISP and have this enabled for their household, however, they must provide proof that their child is under 14. Why 14? Well, it's a suitable age for them to be able to experience it through media long before they are able to actually do it.

I get the protecting kids thing, I also fully agree most heartidly with Mr Burning and his 'Parents need to act like parents' comment.

However what confuses me in all this, is what do the goverment seriously expect ISP's to do?

The kind of sites they are referencing aren't the issue, as most require credit cards or such to get onto anyways. The issue is the many free sites, either TGP style ones, video and such which stream stuff for free and everything else in between.

So how do they think ISP's can block them. Some kind of mature content filter over the entire UK net?

Well thats fine, but what about sites I'd go to like Deviant art or Elfwood, which have a small percentage of soft porn related art on there, but would get caught up in a filter ban, if it was similar to say the average work block system.

Seems more like the goverment making a big bold statement, and then doing nothing. Which sadly seem par for the course so far for them on any issues of importance other than cuts and taxing us to the hills.


edit - in fact thats what this smells like, pass a law that is nigh unenforcable for the ISP's and then start fining the pants off them when they can't comply to get more cash in the coffers, and our monthly fees will go up as a result. Nice one Dave, everybody wins.

I agree with the above, I have no idea how this will be enforceable. What do they do with new sites? I can near guarantee that current free sites will just tweak their domain to bi-pass this filter.

I get asked if I am over 18 on game sites enough. If I was under 18 I would have lied to see the Skyrim or Duke Nukem trailers. Why would a child have any more problem accessing porn?

It's not going to happen. It just can't be enforced. It will either let too many sites through and be pointless or over censor and be an annoyance.

How will they know who is a child and who isnt? If you just have to confirm your older than 18 then children will find out and lie. Any more complex methods are going to be very restricting to other users.

The government truly must be filled with overcaring PTA members for this law to be passed. As people have said, it's not enforceable, it's not useful and it doesn't make sense. How many kids are going to see a message asking if they're 18 and tell the truth? If they're looking for porn they aren't going to be dissauded by some strong words.

Proof we need another Inquisition of some sort.

Where it matters yes, I wont lie to people. But 18 certification is largely ignored and is not considered being dishonest. I watched enough 18 certificate films underage, if I was a 17 year old, or even much younger I would want to see the Skyrim rumours and trailers. but the fact is, if we have to sign up to the ISP's to say were going on these sites, it just means the government gets yet another piece of information, considering whats already on the national census and the fact they could easily say "oh we thing hes doing something illegal" and gain access to our bank and medical details the'll pretty much know everything about us including our private details that we might not even tell the spouses =/ the Normans would be happy.... That all requires porn to have no affect on it whatsoever. It isn't illogical to suggest that porn could contribute somewhat to underage sex due to kids watching it and then wanting to do it, the same way flashy adverts make them pester their parents for the latest piece of tat that flashes and makes noises for a few minutes before it inevitably breaks/is broken.

That would, of course, require a study, which, due to the nature of it, could have an affect on the results. Having to tell the big guy with a beard in a white coat every time you whipped out your sausage on bigbewbz.com and then went over to your friends house and played ametuer pornstar with her could deter participants somewhat.
