Subject: Necron's WBB questions

So me and a friend were testing out his new Necrons. We came upon a few interesting question. For instance if Necron's get over runed do they get WBB? What about the case of types. I am pretty sure that when a Warrior takes its WBB test and the closet infantry unit is a unit of Wraiths. Does the warrior join the Wraith squad?

Um... Where do I begin?
Most Necron players have agreed that Sweeping Advance denies WBB.
The 2nd question, a model may only take WBB if there is a model of the same type (Warriors with Warriors, Destroyers with Destroyers, Wraiths with Wraiths, Heavy Destroyers with Heavy Destroyers) within 6" of the downed model. If there is no such model then when you are called to make the test, you remove the downed necron. If there is, then that will tell you which unit your succesful WBB models will join.

Is there a source for why the Necrons won't get WBB for a Sweeping Andvance.
I see I was under thpression that type is based on model type, infantry, jump infantry, MC, etc.

No, it is based on what type of necron it is. A warrior is a different type of necron to a wraith
The source is "the rulebook". Sweeping Advance tells you that no special rule may save the unit unless it SPECIFICALLY states it works against SA. WBB does NOT specify, so it destroys the entire unit, including ANY models awaiting WBB (as they are part of the unit)

Since sweeping advance removes them from play, they don't get WBB. Simple as that.

Actually it doesnt. theyre removed as casualties, which means WBB would normally kick in.
The rule goes further, however, and states that no special rule can save the unit, unless the rule says so - which WBB doesnt. THAT is why WBB does not work.

But in the end, we all know that the Necrons will all wake up and wipe out life as we know it, so if one unit gets kicked off a table by a sweeping advance or not doesn't really matter...

SA does say that the unit is removed as casualties. WBB does state that you can lie the models down so that is counts as not removed from the game.

Lysenis - yet you didnt read the bit about no special rule saving the unit, unless it specifies (as in, actually MENTIONS Sweeping Advance)
Is WBB a special rule? Yes
Does it try to save the unit? Yes
Does it specify it works even against Swweeping Advance? No
Does it therefore work against sweeping advance? NO

I've always been somewhat... Ignorant towards the Sweeping Advance rule, never quite cared to look into it, until earlier today.
So basically, a single whych that makes into a heap of 20 Necrons, makes one kill and survives, can cause the Necrons to route, and sweepingly advance them to death?

yes, that is where the necron weakness is right now, you assault kill maybe 2, they run you sweep they lose a whole squad and possibly phase out.
and just so their is no confusion about WBB with other things.
a lot of people think WBB is FNP its not.
the rule for WBB states double toughness or disallows armor saves in close combat.
so yes that S8 AP2 blast will knock some destroyers over but will not negate their WBB.
yes that sniper rifle is rending and auto kills a warrior but it still gets its WBB. pay very close attention to all the wording with the necron codex being as old as it is.
soon though our new dex will show up and we will take over the universe.

As was stated, yes.
But since almost all Necron units (exception scarab swarms) have a Ld of 10, it is difficult for them to fail morale checks in the first place.
Called game balance.

Really? Lose CC by four models and let's see how often they may their morale test.
Getting swept is the bane of Necrons at the moment, pure and simple.

If you lose by 4, then you killed too few, or you're practically wiped out anyways. It's one of the reasons that 5man squads are superior to 10 man ones. You can only lose by 4, and rolling 6's is just unlikely. Most of the time you only lose by 1 or 2.
Stay out of CC. The bane of Necrons is and will continue to be their lack of anti tank in 5th edition. They sure can wound a tank, but destroying it before it delievers it's payload is an entirerly different thing.

Firstly Necron squads are 10-20. You have no option for 5 man squads. Necrons also have no extra close combat weapons and pistols, and only one attack per model. The best they can hope for from a 10 man squad is 10 wounds. Most opponents will shrug at least 50% of those as none are from power weapons. The enemy will likey have power weapons in the squad, or have more than one attack. It's entirely likely they will have an extra cc weapon as well. Add int he fact that Necrons have an I of 2, which means they'll be swinging last, there isn't a lot of chance of them dealign out more damage than the enemy. They will lose combat by at least one, more likely 4 or more, an will be rolling to not flee on effective Ld of about 6-7. If they break, which they usually do, they will be run down due to having I 2 (unless they are being attacked by something with equally lousy I).
A better result is them all being killed in CC, with another unit on hand, but generally they get swept.
Staying out of CC is near impossible when armies can drop-pod assault troops right next to your unit, or even worse Blood-talon dreads. No sane Necron player will commit Warriors to bloody close combat if they have any other option. A Wraithwing, on the other hand, isn't too shabby in CC, but it very very pricy in terms of slot/pts to models ratio.
The Necrons were balanced for the game when a glancing hit could still wreck a non-opentopped vehicle. Since they decided to change that the Necron Antitank nosedived.
