Contributed to a thread the other day on stuff we love from the 80's and it's been interesting reading. Most of the stuff I loved (and still do) is actually pretty cheesey, and it got me thinking about cheesey films I like, you know, the stuff that went straight to video (sorry - DVD for those that don't know what VHS or Betamax means). There are a couple with David Carradine (Grasshopper) that spring to mind - Q the winged serpent and the original Death Race film (originally Death Race 2000 - which incidently had a very young Sly Stallone in - and of course is much better than the remake). There was a great space/vampire film called Life-force that was pretty good, but the one I'm going for (and is definitely in my DVD collection) is a film called Bad Taste which came out in 1987. It's a REALLY low budget one about aliens that invade a town in New Zealand. It starred (in more than one role) and was directed by a guy called Peter Jackson, who eventually moved onto bigger things (you may have heard of a film called 'Lord of the Rings' that he directed - it was quite popular). If you ever get to see it (Bad Taste I mean) then watch it, it's hilarious, but not for the faint hearted. Best line of the film, after Robert (an alien played by Jackson) vomits into a bowl and the others all start drinking it, the leader has a slurp and says with a wide grin on his face "Mmmm, aren't I lucky - I got a chunky bit!" Priceless. My Jackson - I salute you.
If you enjoyed Death Race 2000 you might want to check out Maximum Overdrive. I think it would be right up your alley. It might be hard to find though I don't think it ever came out on DVD.
The Big Lebowski, Eraserhead, Repo Man,El Topo, Pink Flamingos, Reanimator, RHPS, Rushmore, Buckaroo Banzi, Brazil, Evil Dead, Another State of Mind, ...I could do this all night...but I won't.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
some of my favorite, and definitely cult classic type movies include:
Incredible Kung Fu Master
Shaolin Vs. Wutang
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
Vanishing Point (the original one.. since i seem to recall seeing a remade version)
I recently picked up Army of Darkness for my wife. I also really enjoy Metropolis, in its original silent film version, depending on the soundtrack that the cut comes with.
Check out Slither, From Beyond, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, Master of the Flying Guillotine, Return to Oz, They Live, Heathers, Abar the First Black Superman and any movie with matthew lillard (think Hackers, In the Name of the King: a Dungeon Siege Tale).

I also love Peter Jackson films, and a definite cult-movie of his is Meet the Feebles.
It's a puppetmovie about a theatercompany.
It's like the muppets on LSD, awesome stuff

Evil Dead/Army of Darkness as was already mentioned, Hellraiser, any of the 3 Bruce Lee movies(I think those are 70's though), but I think I mostly remember 80's tv shows the most.
Nice to see plenty of for the evil dead films - I'll go for number three from that lot. And for They Live "I've come to kick ass and chew gum - and I'm all out of gum". A couple of others sprung to mind, The Graveyard Shift and The Warriors ("warriors - come out to play!"). These films are a priceless source of classic one liners!
I think it was best they decided to never make a sequel... THEY NEVER MADE A SEQUEL!
I have to second this, it was so damned funny that just looking at the picture makes me crack up. I kinda wish they had made a sequel. But its best that it will NEVER HAPPEN now that Belushi isn't with us.

Ooo.... Love all the movies mentioned here.
To add to the list...
Frankenhooker, Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (Bill Mahar as a heroic type...),
Return of the Living Dead, Creepozoids, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Dead Heat...
Ok, Pretty much ANY Linnea Quigley movie from the 80s-90s...
Kentucky Fried Movie.
Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!
Office of Naval Intelligence Research discovers 3 out of 4 sailors make up 75% of U.S. Navy.

I'm a big horror buff, so although some of these are rather known, they still are considered "cult" for their initial reception...
Suspiria
Deep Red
Tombs of the Blind Dead
Zombie
Black Sunday
Henry: Portrait of A serial killer
The Grapes of Death
PHANTASM
It's hard to walk the line between good horror film, and so "campy" it's not even enjoyable. Lots of the more "laughable" exploitationesque horror films get very dry by the end...

Huge + 1 for Ms. Quigley...to this day the scene with the lipstick in Deamon nights cracks me up...

They Live and Escape from New York are two of my favorites...I actually live a few minutes from the bridge that the final scene Escape from NY was filmed on
