Just wondering if any of you 'refluff' special characters?

EG I was looking at blood angels - I'm doing 4th company. As I'm sure many are aware the BA captains are woefully short of options compared to regular SM captains (relic blades, glaive encarmine options?) So I was thinking of kitbashing a 'dante' and a Tycho to use as Captain Castigon either jump packing (tactical strike etc) or else taking a more tacitcal role on the ground (Tycho's LD boost etc).

So Dakkanauts, do you reskin/refluff/recycle Special characters?

Examples would be - imperial fists using 'Kedro Pantor' (with the rules of Pedro Kantor), or Salamanders using Calgar as Tu'Shan (2x pfist is roughty equal to 2x thunder hammers!)

I have a chapter of my own and I use Kantor as my chapter master but I naturally renamed him. I do use the official model because it looks cool.

Give a special name to every single model in your army~!

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

My sister named every single skaven in her army. That's a lot of names.

Yes I do.

I re-fluffed Saint Celestine for use with my Sisters of Battle force, though I do use the official mini since I like it so much. Mine is named "Battle-Saint Valeria Hortensia."

I've re-branded and re-miniatured a few Imperial Guard characters for my Jagdmacht army (Marbo became Der Faust, and is represented by a Steel Legion Captain model, Sergeant Bastonne became Helmuth von Haub, and is represented by a kitbash, I also have a not-Harker and a not Al'Rahem in the works). As long as the model that you choose is distinct and fitting for the character that you're representing, there shouldn't be any problem.

I toyed with the idea of making my IG commander use Straken's rules... But I don't like Straken's equipment too much. My commander, regardless, looks half machine anyway.

I do it occasionally myself, and I'm fine with it, provided WYSIWYG is met, and there's no modeling for advantage.

I use Tycho as my Sternguard Veteran sergeant, and Telion in my scout squad, but I run Salamanders. I love the way both of them look in green. I don't really come up with fluff for my specific characters, but I do have a name for my Tycho fig (since he has a name scroll on his shoulder pad). I also use a Tigurius fig, but run him as Vel'cona.

I use the official figs whenever I am running a character with special rules, since I don't want to run into someone at a competetive event giving me trouble for not having the 'real' mini. Just preventative care.

My Crimson Fists use Lysander, or as he's know in my army, Captain Rynn. I've got no issues whether you're using the official model or an appropriate conversion.

Not really, but I doubt anyone will argue!

Well this is what I mean - my tycho has a combi-angelus bolter since the sang guard have angelus bolters - but that fits even better since he can use special ammo (and the drum loks a bit like a shot selector!)

I don't do it myself but I allow others to do it.

Actually "custom" characters that play to the rules for official GW characters are becoming the trend here. I think Finecast (despite its many failings) has made life a lot easier for anyone who wants to try a shot at converting.
