Hello Dakka dakka forums! I have recently started a Tyranid army and I have a few lists to share with you for input. The 1000 Point army is a swarm army where I am going for poisoned termagant swarm to combat infantry with a zoanthrope and Heavy Venom cannon aside from monstrous creature CC to destroy armor. I have played against Grey Knights and Eldar with this list and in objective based matches I do great as I have a ton of troops to hold and contest.

the 1850 list is where I would like my army to go. It is a Nidzilla list because with the amount of armor talked about here and what I've seen monstrous creature spam seems like the only way to stay in the game. I am new so this train of thought might be wrong and I am really eager to hear ideas to beat armor heavy lists. I am looking at the 1850 list from a competitive perspective as i would like to start playing in local tournaments as they happen. Thank you for all feedback in advance and dont be afraid to tell me my lists are bad.

As I'm sure others will add, you shouldn't post individual points upgrades ...

On the 1,000 point list, you have over 1/3 your points tied up in an HQ unit. Drop the tyrant, make a tervigon and HQ instead. Tervigons should have catalyst.

Extra points can be spent on more zoanthropes, maybe some hive gaurd.

On the 1,850 list, tyrant doesn't really need armoured shell, HVC is not an optimal upgrade, spend some points on AG for trygons.

Ex nihilo

On the 1k list, drop the spore and a tyrant guard. Save 100 points total.
Spend it on another zoanthrope, adrenals for tervigons ( keep them troops) and give the tyrant old adversary.

Thank you for the comments! A few questions I have are: why is the heavy venom cannon hated on so much, does adrenal glands on the tervigon matter as with poison wounding on a 4+ does that 1 strength matter for him or gants close by.

Well, first the hvc ( which I love on harpies, also hated) forces a -1 on the damage chart. You need a 6 to wreck it. It's considered more of a stun gun, causing reliable penetration but unreliable permanent damage. It's still useful in my book because vehicles that didnt move get hit automatically in cc, allowing them to get smacked on by Genestealers and others.

Adrenal glands on the tervigons mean gant glands. Gants are strength 3, marines are t4. Toxin sacs allow rerolls to wound if your str is equal to or greater than the targets toughness. Wounding on a 4+ is great, because you wound with 50% of the hits. Refilling the misses means 75% will wound.

Factor in old adversary from the tyrant, and you will reroll hits, then reroll wounds that happen on a 4+. Basically, your 5 point critter just became a huge nightmare, and you squirt more out every turn.
